As the city's only real five-star hotel, the Hyatt Regency is undoubtedly the best establishment in Belgrade. This is a very modern, luxurious hotel which creates quite an impression as soon as you enter its lobby, which even features its own garden. Its location across the Danube, in the business district of New Belgrade, means that is close to the airport. Famous visitors to the Serb capital usually check in here, and just like them you can make the most of the fine facilities (comfortable guest rooms, a spa, a heated swimming pool, hammam, gym, sauna and whirlpool bath) and quality cuisine.

    • To know

    • Across the Danube in the modern business district of New Belgrade, just 6 mi from the airport and 3 mi from Belgrade city centre. Allow 15 minutes to get to the airport, and the same to get to the city centre.

    • Welcome to your humble residence, which might just have played host to a visiting prime minister or a touring international star. The 38m standard room is big enough to contain a king-size bed, a big flat-screen television and a large desk with a big mirror on top. Basically, it brings together all the biggest and best features you could wish for! The light coloured contemporary decor matches the standards expected of the American hotel chain, Hyatt. It features a comfortable green carpet that feels lovely to walk on in bare feet, a modern painting on the wall, and a stylish coat stand. You'll soon feel at home in this comfortable setting with its full range of facilities, including discreet individual air-conditioning, a well stocked mini-bar fridge, and tea and coffee-making facilities. The only drawback is that guests must pay extra for Internet (Wi-Fi) access. Some of the rooms enjoy fine views of the distant Belgrade fortress overhanging the Danube. Needless to say, room service operates 24 hours a day. Other features include a large dressing room with a wardrobe, a luggage rack, bathrobes and slippers, as well as an electronic code safe that can be used free of charge. The spacious bathroom marble-clad from top to bottom is quite an impressive sight! It is a clean, bright room with superb decor, and includes a bathtub, a big separate shower, and many hospitality products (tissues, a make-up mirror, a hair-dryer, cotton buds, etc.).
    • This member of the prestigious American hotel chain Hyatt is an ultra modern glass building that was built in 1989. It stands eight storeys high and houses 302 guest rooms, which are served by three lifts decorated in a harmonious combination of wood and marble. As soon as you set eyes on the vast, airy lobby, you get an idea of just how luxurious the establishment is. The space is very brightly lit thanks to its glass roof, which cleverly also lights up the impressive garden on the lobby level, with its little river and palm trees. The tropical appearance of this feature is really exotic, and we liked the pools, the statue of Atlas carrying the world on his shoulders, the sculptures and the waterfall rushing down a mosaic wall.
The spa is open from 5:00am to 11:00pm, and consists of five rooms - including one for couples - offering treatments and massages (ayurvedic, hot stones, etc.). Here, products by the Italian cosmetics brand RVB are used, and you can also make use of a large whirlpool bath, a sauna, a hammam, a relaxation room with cushioned wooden deckchairs, showers and a heated rectangular swimming pool 18 metres long. Towels, bathrobes and flip flops are also provided, and everything is free of charge, except the massages of course. The changing rooms are separate. Iced tea (green, mint, vanilla) and fruit are available. Next to this part of the hotel is the gym, which is provided with the latest equipment and also opens from 5:00am to 11:00pm.
    • The stylishly decorated la carte restaurant, the Metropolitan Grill, welcomes you into a dining room with seating for up to 85 diners. Breakfast is served as a buffet from 6:30am to 10:30am. You can choose from cereals, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, cold cuts of pork, pastries and various omelettes, as well as fruit juices, hot chocolate, tea and coffee. Lunch is served between 12:00pm and 3:00pm and dinner between 7:00pm and 11:30pm. The dishes on offer feature local and international cuisine, the exceptions including Wednesday's Asian evening and Thursday's pasta evening. As it is an open kitchen, your taste buds start to get going as soon as you take to your seats. A great way to start your meal and really get your appetite going is with a taste of some 12 year-old Rakija! Next, we would recommend the traditional Serbian soup, which is excellent. Indeed 'chorba', a pretty hearty local dish, is one of the things not to be missed. Next up is the Serbian brochette, which consists of various cuts of grilled beef, chicken and pork served on a sword-like skewer. The cheesecake is a delicious dessert option. Finally, you can retire for a brandy and a cigar at the elegant bar in the neighbouring room, where sports events are shown on the large plasma-screen television. This bar opens from 10:00am to 2:00am, and stages jazz concerts on certain evenings. The Tea House opens from 8:00am till midnight, offering a whole other ambience, and if you have a sweet tooth you can savour delicious pastries with a coffee or hot chocolate as piano music plays in the background.
    • Wi-Fi internet access is charged throughout the hotel, including in the guest rooms. There is a garage for guests to use free of charge. The hotel also has a superb conference room with a crystal chandelier and space for up to 650 people, as well as five other smaller meeting rooms. There is a cash machine in the lobby, and you can also change currency at reception.
Unless you are visiting Belgrade for business reasons, there are no tourist attractions in New Belgrade, whose unremarkable buildings are inspired by the designs of French architect Le Corbusier. Having said that, the Hyatt Regency is in a good location between the airport (just 6 mi away) and the city centre (3 mi away). The 'village' district of Zemun is not far away either, and is well worth a look.
