Amy Adejokun Section editor

Nestled in the heart of a 526-acre estate, Anahita The Resort opened its doors to its first lucky guests on 1 June 2008. To say that it is a luxurious hotel is an understatement, with its gastronomic cuisine, more than comfortable apartments, allocated butler, etc. The Anahita is more than just a hotel, it is a seaside resort community. Everything is possible here, as far as is reasonable!

    Location 8.0 /10

Built on the east coast of the island of Mauritius, Anahita the Resort is a one and a half hour's drive away from Port Louis. Allow roughly 45 minutes to drive to the airport, but it is also possible to go by boat (provide by the hotel). The Legend 36 has been custom-made out of fibreglass and teak. It can accommodate up to 10 people. The transfer to the hotel from Point Jérôme, which is a 10 minute drive from the airport, is a mere 40 minute boat ride.

    Accommodation 9.90 /10

The accommodation is split into two different sections. The first holds 70 two/three-bedroom apartments, the second consists of 28 three/five room villas, with a surface area of between 3,200 and 5,400 sq ft, and hotel service. The apartments are located in the 13 blocks of the Adamante buildings. It is a shame that there aren't any lifts to go up to the first and second floors. As far as landscape is concerned, you have the choice between a view of the sea and a view of the golf course. Inside, the apartments are between 1,950 sq ft and 2,600 sq ft: aaah, life can be so tough sometimes! The contemporary and stylish decoration and furniture are a real success. The shades of blue and grey blend together perfectly. A huge room unites the lounge and dining areas. A fully-equipped kitchen opens out onto the room. All marble clad, you will even find a washing machine in the kitchen. Two picture windows look out onto the terrace of your dreams. There, you will find a square-shaped, overflow relaxation pool, two deckchairs and an outdoor lounge. Its positioning, however, means that it lacks sunshine. Each apartment has at least two bedrooms. The main bedroom is decorated in nuances of beige and brown. Everything is elegant and comfortable. There is another television (in addition to the one in the lounge and the one in the second bedroom), a very quiet air-conditioning system, a telephone with direct international access, a hair-dryer, a free safe, bathrobes and slippers. Every night, you will find a little surprise on your pillow before falling asleep in a most comfortable bed! As for the bathroom, it opens out onto the bedroom, and welcome products are provided by the Elemis brand. From your bathtub, you have just as good a view of the flat screen television as you do of the sea. Here again, everything is marble, everything is beautiful... The second bedroom looks a lot like the first one but it can accommodate two single beds. It also has its own bathroom. To crown it all off, you won't just get room service here, but your very own butler. They will take as good care of you as a member of your family would.

    Overview 9.45 /10

The hotel reception is easily spotted thanks to the old lime-kiln standing next to it. The Anahita resembles a private residence, but it is run like a hotel. The communal facilities consist of a village structured around Belgath square. Various shops have been built to meet all the guests' requirements: a small store, a newsagent, clothes shops, a grocery shop, a flower shop, a jewellery shop, etc. The overflow pool is just behind them, surrounded by palm trees. The slate-tiled pool, which looks like a lagoon, is heated during the winter months. There is a sufficient number of rattan deckchairs and white canvas parasols. On-site waiter service is provided by the staff. Upon arrival, you will be checked-in directly to your residence...

    Food and drink 9.90 /10

Besides the food stores in the village, the Anahita has several different restaurants. The Sugar, which serves a selection of breakfast food from 7:00am to 11:00am, as well as light meals and little delicacies. The golf course's restaurant, The Big Easy, which opens early in the morning and serves simple a la carte meals, all day long. However, you would really miss out if you spent your holiday at the Anahita without having a meal at the gastronomic restaurant 'Origine by Jean-Pierre Vigato'. This place is managed by the star-holding chef of the same name, from the Parisian restaurant Apicius. He works his magic here by preparing top Mauritian contemporary cuisine, with his own take on it. Here is a brief overview: Mauritian-style foie gras, terrine with ginger and mango confit, guanaja chocolate soufflé with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream! All this is served in a contemporary and elegant setting inside and outside. Most guests also opt for a meal at their residence. Leave it in the skilful hands of your butler, who will organise for your meal to be prepared by a talented chef in your own kitchen. The pastry chef will even take the time to write the menu on a plate with chocolate. Each and every dish is a success: palm heart and scallop duo, roast loin of lamb with potato gratin and a mandarin delicacy to finish. Finally, don't forget that the Vu bar serves light lunch-time meals. On some evenings, theme nights are organized at the bar, accompanied by an instrumental band.

    Beach 8.70 /10

Anahita beach has been carved out of the rock. The sand is fine, but, unfortunately, small rocks and corals are still present in the sea. The slope is so gentle you will find it hard to go out of your depth. It is raked regularly and beach staff take care to set out deckchairs, lay out towels and adjust parasols. The close-by water sports hut, Quayside, offers numerous activities but you will have to pay an extra charge for motorsports. The hotel offers boat shuttles all day to Ile aux Cerfs island. There, you can find quiet little places, with very few visitors.

    To know

The Anahita does not have a spa yet, but one is planned. For the time being, two booths have been set up on the beach, but it is also possible to receive beauty treatments in your apartment. Various different types of treatment are available, including an Ocean Prana massage. This is a relaxing massage which begins and ends with an instrument being played, which sounds like gentle waves on sandy shores... A good start to the holiday, this massage will make all aches and pains just fade away! Guests can take part in all of the activities available at the Four Seasons. The latter also manages the superb 18-hole golf course (accessible from the Anahita), designed by the famous Ernie Els. Younger guests can get together at Our Space. This place has facilities which are completely dedicated to children: buffet restaurant, pool, games room, etc. The club staff organize activities all day long, adapted to various age groups. The two managers are English.
If you wish to go on an excursion, the hotel organizes expeditions all over the island, and particularly to the territory of l'Etoile, where you can ride a quad bike. If you want to have a picnic here too, don't hesitate! Your butler will organize everything for you. But it is not just a simple meal on the beach. Sitting in a peaceful part of Ile aux Cerfs, you will indulge in lobster sandwiches among other things, in an area prepared especially for you!

The Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita opened on 1st October 2008 and is exactly what you would expect of an establishment bearing the Four Seasons name. It is a superb hotel offering a wide range of services, all characterised by pure luxury, which makes it difficult to find any downsides. All of the staff do their utmost to please each and every guest. Melina, the customer service manager, is quite simply adorable. This establishment is suitable for both couples and families, though you would probably enjoy the surroundings more as a couple. The Four Seasons belongs to the Anahita World Class Sanctuary.

The newcomers will be sensitive to comfort and the oceanfront location; the others will appreciate the reduced number of rooms. Be careful, however. This is not a Mauritian style hotel.

Opened in April 2011, the Long Beach takes its name from its huge beach that stretches out for nearly a mile. The property also has a 195 acre playground. It really goes without saying that there is enough room for everyone. Composed of around 500,000 plants, the gardens are simply splendid. The coconut trees that were growing here before the establishment was built are still the same ones; they were kept in safekeeping for the two years that it took to build the hotel. The Long Beach is incontestably a contemporary hotel that has rejuvenated the Mauritian hotel industry. Its decor is superb, from the lobby to the guest rooms to the restaurants. However, hopefully walking doesn't bother you, since some of the communal areas of some of the rooms are quite far. That being said, you can always borrow one of the hotel's golf carts.
