Hotel Long Beach Mauritius Hotel 5 star
Easyexperts
Coastal Road, 41601, Mauritius Belle Mare, Mauritius
Amy Adejokun Section editor

Opened in April 2011, the Long Beach takes its name from its huge beach that stretches out for nearly a mile. The property also has a 195 acre playground. It really goes without saying that there is enough room for everyone. Composed of around 500,000 plants, the gardens are simply splendid. The coconut trees that were growing here before the establishment was built are still the same ones; they were kept in safekeeping for the two years that it took to build the hotel. The Long Beach is incontestably a contemporary hotel that has rejuvenated the Mauritian hotel industry. Its decor is superb, from the lobby to the guest rooms to the restaurants. However, hopefully walking doesn't bother you, since some of the communal areas of some of the rooms are quite far. That being said, you can always borrow one of the hotel's golf carts.

    Location 8.0 /10

This establishment is found along the beach at the tip of Belle Mare. The town of Centre de Flacq is only 6 mi away. The airport is 34 mi away and it takes about one hour to reach it from here.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

The hotel's 255 guest rooms are divided into 3 categories: standard (116), superior (108) and family (30). The standard rooms are grouped together in the main building while the superior ones consist of single-storey buildings directly on the beach. All of the rooms have a view of the sea; even the units on the ground floor were raised 3m so that they could offer an unobstructed view. As in the rest of the hotel, the decor inside is dominated by shades of grey and white which enhance the lighting. The atmosphere is very pleasant and you will immediately feel at peace. The bathrooms have a shower, a bathtub and two wash basins. Nothing to worry about in terms of amenities, they're all here: air-conditioning, safe, mini-bar, iPod docking station, etc.

    Overview 8.20 /10

Designed by architect Kevan Moses from the South African firm Stauch Vorster Architects, the Long Beach combines an urban and seaside style with a very contemporary decor. Even the lobby is pleasant to look at, with its shutters open to the sea as you relax on the large comfortable bench seats. The decoration of the establishment was entrusted to Keith Menher, an expert in the art of design. All throughout the establishment you will find clever combinations of materials, such as Balau, a very dense and sturdy wood, volcanic rock and thatching. Grey and white are the dominant colours at the Long Beach.
You just have to go down a few steps to get to the heart of the hotel. This is where the main swimming pool stretches out to the beach. The decor is superb, thanks in particular to the beautiful jardinieres. It's easy to imagine yourself relaxing on one of the daybeds in the pool. Small whirlpools have been installed in nooks around the swimming pool. Equipped with sensors, they turn on when someone gets in. For those interested, the gym is open to everyone for free, from 8:00am to 8:00pm. The equipment is all top of the line.
For the little ones there is a children's club that proposes different programmes every day for 4 to 5 year olds, 6 to 8 year olds, and 9 to 11 year olds from 10:15am to 9:30pm. The club's facilities include video games, a small swimming pool and a buffet where children can eat lunch for 430 rupees (around £5).
The hotel's Sea Spa is setback from the rest of the establishment so that the atmosphere is not disturbed by all the noises associated with the resort. Unfortunately, there is a road just behind it. It has 12 equally pretty rooms. They were built as small units, following the model of the guest rooms. The yoga pavilion looks out onto a natural lake nearby, offering a moment of well-deserved serenity.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

Various styles of cuisine are proposed in the many restaurants at the Long Beach. The main restaurant, Le Marché, is open for breakfast and lunch. The meals are served buffet-style and the theme is international. It has 7 catering areas. The dining hall has been pleasantly decorated and affords a pretty view of the surroundings. It also includes several semi-private areas. The Italian restaurant, Sapori, proposes very good quality Italian products, such as the brand Del Cecco. It even has an impressive pizza oven. For Chinese cuisine, head to Chopsticks, where classic meets modern for lunch and dinner. As for the Japanese restaurant, Hasu, it is only open for dinner. The dishes are prepared right in front of you. Lastly, Tides proposes local and international fish and seafood dishes in the evening. Also, snacks are available here at lunchtime. For before and after dinner drinks, head to one of the 3 bars.

    Beach 8.70 /10

Nearly a mile long, there is no lack of space on the Long Beach beach. It is equipped with 260 deckchairs (for 255 guest rooms). Spaced out from each other and shaded by thatched huts, you won't be lacking privacy. The setting is as beautiful as you can imagine when you think of Mauritius. You will notice rocks in the water in some spots but the water is clear enough to be able to avoid them. There is a beach service provided by a large team of 'beach boys'. There are two huts proposing water sports for enthusiasts, however, water-skiing is not one of the possibilities.

    To know

The hotel stands on the same land as the former Coco Beach hotel, which was entirely demolished during the construction work. It belongs to the Sun Resorts Group.
The water in the rooms and the swimming pool is heated using solar panels.
Since the east coast of Mauritius is the one most exposed to the wind, sand dunes were built to protect the communal facilities.
So as not to distract from the decor, all of the hotel's offices were built underground and food and linen carts are circulated discreetly around the establishment via tunnels.
