This high quality hotel is on a motu on the west of the island. It offers excellent services and great comfort as well as an original spa. A premium hotel without bad surprises. Except maybe for the small oudated look which is evident in the decoration of the common areas.

    Location 10.0 /10

The hotel is 0.5 miles from Vaitape. Allow 5 minutes for the shuttle transfer by boat.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

Lodging quality offered by the BBLR is impeccable and pleasant, either in the stilted bungalows or in the motu rooms. They offer high standard equipment, with a large area of 538 square feet (without the large terrace), a refined exotic decor, and large picture windows. One notes with pleasure the sliding screen doors which allow one to leave the windows open. The bathroom is very large with double vanity unit and hair dryer. A little advantage: besides bathrobes and slippers, light kimonos are also available in each room. Internet fanatics can connect their computers after requesitng a cable from the lobby.

    Overview 9.90 /10

The BBLR lies in a well-maintained park at the foot of the green reliefs of the small basaltic island, and is located north of Toopua's motu, just opposite Vaitape and only some miles away from the airport. It has 77 units: 44 "standard" bungalows built on piles, 6 "pontoon's end" bungalows built on piles (totally unobstructed view), 23 "motu" bungalows (garden), 3 suites with private pool and a "presidential" villa. The building offers excellent standing with top quality facilities, a very pleasant environment favorable to resort activities. Nothing to question except a small reservation regarding its architecture and its decor, especially in the common areas, that are raher outdated. Note that the BBLR has a very beautiful spa with "tree top" care booths on built on piles that are level with the branches of two majestic rubber trees. The latter has just been enlarged with an area devoted to relaxation (yoga) and a traditional massage room with a shower.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The BBLR has a main restaurant, Café Faré, located on the edge of the pool (unfortunately not the sea). Long and narrow, it offers a very pleasant setting, fully decorated with wood and picture windows. Here you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. "À la carte" menus: large choice of cold starters (spa menus), salads, pizzas, pasta, burgers, fish, meat (grill) and desserts. With correct prices for the destination and given the hotel's standards.

    Beach 8.20 /10

The hotel has 3 relatively small beaches but which offer a very pleasant setting. They also have a beautiful view of the the main island and of the small private coral islands. Theay have deckchairs with mattresses, sunshades and brand new watersport equipment: sailboats ( catamaran, rigid sail, kayak, pedalo). The hotel arranges other nautical activities with external service providers.

    To know

In Bora, everyone calls the hotel the "BBLR". It belongs to the Venise Simplon Orient Express group and has the "Leading Hotels of the World" label. The pool has just been enlarged. The BBLR was the first hotel in Bora which was built on a motu.

In a Club Med that has an enchanting setting, with quality activities, a decor and facilities of a good standard. Lodgings are very well equipped and the range of nautical activities is important. What a pity that rooms are a little cold in their decor.

The Maitai Polynesia is one of the hotels of Bora Bora which makes the accommodation on this pearl of the Pacific better value. Nicknamed the pearl of the Pacific, Bora Bora is a magnificent island where tourism is costly, thus putting off less wealthy travellers who cannot afford its luxury accommodation, even for an overnight stay. Fortunately, the main island has a few hotels of intermediary standard, which now compete and bring down their prices when the number of guests is low. The Maitai is one of them. It is therefore one of the hotels you should keep in mind if you would like to see Bora Bora without spending a fortune, while still enjoying the beauty of the lagoon.

In our view, the Temanuata Village is too expensive for the quality of the accommodation and the services on offer. This aspect will come out in our commentary, but beyond these fee-related considerations, there is something that you should know about Bora Bora: it is currently a better idea to stay in a three-star hotel than in a guest house or a bed and breakfast. As hotels are offering all sorts of different offers at the moment to attract tourists, which is not the case with the local guesthouse or bed and breakfast. Let's hope that these establishments soon pick up on the trend, because so far they are the most expensive form of accommodation in Polynesia.

As Bora Bora is very well-known and sometimes criticised for its inordinate number of hotels (even though there are only fifteen or so on the main island and motus), it could be taken for the Venice of tropical islands: its hotels are beautiful and the natural setting is superb. The enchanting, green island rises high out of the superb blue lagoon encircling it, while the hotels blend in with the surroundings (like in Venice) and make for a superb holiday destination. As this kind of holiday comes at a price, the Moana, which is next to Matira beach on the main island, is to be recommended for its pleasant accommodation and traditional, friendly atmosphere. Indeed, it is the ideal starting point to explore the whole of the island of Bora Bora.

This superb and innovative hotel is one to remember, if only for its thalassotherapy centre, (known as a 'thalasso and spa'), which is a true haven of well-being, with water that has been drawn from a depth of 3,000 ft, off the coast of Bora Bora. As this seawater is pumped at very cold temperatures (5° C), it is also used for the hotel's air-conditioning system (communal areas and villas), and contributes to reducing the hotel's energy consumption and hence its environmental impact. The Intercontinental Thalasso also offers the luxury of accommodating its guests in villas a free shuttle is available which takes guests to Bora Bora's other Intercontinental hotel, the Moana. This trip gives you the opportunity to visit Pointe Matira peninsula, on Bora Bora's main island.

The St. Regis is one of the finest luxury hotels Bora Bora has to offer. Located on a motu facing the east coast of Bora Bora, the estate is spacious (with 42-acre grounds) and double-fronted (facing both the ocean and the lagoon) and it has a spa alongside the lagoon (complete with a small private beach), several swimming pools, a total of 91 villas either on the motu or on stilts, some beautiful gardens, and, to top it all off, an elegant ambience. The only downside is the restaurants, which are over-priced, but then you could always head over to the main island of Bora Bora for lunch (a shuttle service is provided during the day, but this will incur an additional charge).
