The Sheraton Bora Bora Nui is one of the most luxurious building in Bora Bora built in 2003. Personalized service, huge and sumptuously appointed rooms, a magnificent setting: the hotel, which also has a beautiful spa, will suit the most demanding clientele.

    Location 7.0 /10

The hotel is 5.5 miles from Vaitape. Allow 15 minutes for boat transfers.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

The Sheraton has 120 rooms, 82 on stilts, and 9 in the garden. The "standard" rooms, if you can still use this term, are actually more like suites - 915 feet². They have a lounge, a room, a huge bathroom, and a vast 107-ft² terrace with water access from a sundeck (at least 54 feet²). The wooden decor is colonial style: desk, canopy with net, sliding panels "vaitapas", valet, dressing... Nothing is missing, as expected from such an institution. There are two large televisions and a DVD player (borrow at reception), diving equipment and several trapdoors on each side ot the sofa and at the edge of the bath so you can give food to the fish. The original room-service menu offers classic breakfasts, thematic Japanese menus, tapas, Tahitian barbecue or "zen" breakfasts on wooden boards.

    Overview 9.90 /10

To be clear: The Sheraton is a very top quality building which is not for anyone. Still... The magnificent setting, its huge and superbly decorated rooms merit that you break into your wallet for a few days' stay. It is built at the foot of a majestic basalt terrain which dominates the lagoon, near a little coral island separated by a tiny inlet, located in the south of To'opua island. It has a very beautiful overflow pool and a well equipped spa. It offers quality catering services. Briefly, this hotel is incontestably among the most beautiful buildings in the island, and even in Polynesia.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The "Nui" houses 2 restaurants: a gastronomic one in the main building, and another near the pool whose main oddness is a totally sand covered ground. The setting is very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. You can take breakfast and a la carte dinner, but the prices are, unfortunately, quite inflated. Specialties are French-Tahitian style and include unavoidable burgers, pastas, and pizzas. The Iriatai gastronomic restaurant has breakfast service and, of course, dinner with a quality menu and relatively small choice of dishes with reasonable prices for this hotel starting at 14 to 35 pounds per dish . However&bnsp;the wine menu offers a limited choice for a table with gastronomic vocation.

    Beach 8.20 /10

The Sheraton beach is large, artificial (as most the hotel beaches in Bora) and covered with white sand: nearly 492 feet x 50 feet in size, it is well equipped with deckchairs and sunshades and offers a relatively clear view except for the stilted reception building at the end of a pontoon and the bungalows. The hotel has some marine equipment: sailboats, kayak, and pedalo. For other water activities, the hotel can arrange outside providers if you make a request at the reception.

    To know

The hotel has a full-comfort air-conditioned boat. You can check-in while the transfer from the airport. The hotel which is one of "The Luxury Collection" is indeed one of the top range institutions in Bora Bora. It has 8 "spa" bungalows on the hill which offer daily care. The hotel has some communicating rooms in a building which is convenient for families.

This high quality hotel is on a motu on the west of the island. It offers excellent services and great comfort as well as an original spa. A premium hotel without bad surprises. Except maybe for the small oudated look which is evident in the decoration of the common areas.

In a Club Med that has an enchanting setting, with quality activities, a decor and facilities of a good standard. Lodgings are very well equipped and the range of nautical activities is important. What a pity that rooms are a little cold in their decor.

The Maitai Polynesia is one of the hotels of Bora Bora which makes the accommodation on this pearl of the Pacific better value. Nicknamed the pearl of the Pacific, Bora Bora is a magnificent island where tourism is costly, thus putting off less wealthy travellers who cannot afford its luxury accommodation, even for an overnight stay. Fortunately, the main island has a few hotels of intermediary standard, which now compete and bring down their prices when the number of guests is low. The Maitai is one of them. It is therefore one of the hotels you should keep in mind if you would like to see Bora Bora without spending a fortune, while still enjoying the beauty of the lagoon.

In our view, the Temanuata Village is too expensive for the quality of the accommodation and the services on offer. This aspect will come out in our commentary, but beyond these fee-related considerations, there is something that you should know about Bora Bora: it is currently a better idea to stay in a three-star hotel than in a guest house or a bed and breakfast. As hotels are offering all sorts of different offers at the moment to attract tourists, which is not the case with the local guesthouse or bed and breakfast. Let's hope that these establishments soon pick up on the trend, because so far they are the most expensive form of accommodation in Polynesia.

As Bora Bora is very well-known and sometimes criticised for its inordinate number of hotels (even though there are only fifteen or so on the main island and motus), it could be taken for the Venice of tropical islands: its hotels are beautiful and the natural setting is superb. The enchanting, green island rises high out of the superb blue lagoon encircling it, while the hotels blend in with the surroundings (like in Venice) and make for a superb holiday destination. As this kind of holiday comes at a price, the Moana, which is next to Matira beach on the main island, is to be recommended for its pleasant accommodation and traditional, friendly atmosphere. Indeed, it is the ideal starting point to explore the whole of the island of Bora Bora.

This superb and innovative hotel is one to remember, if only for its thalassotherapy centre, (known as a 'thalasso and spa'), which is a true haven of well-being, with water that has been drawn from a depth of 3,000 ft, off the coast of Bora Bora. As this seawater is pumped at very cold temperatures (5° C), it is also used for the hotel's air-conditioning system (communal areas and villas), and contributes to reducing the hotel's energy consumption and hence its environmental impact. The Intercontinental Thalasso also offers the luxury of accommodating its guests in villas a free shuttle is available which takes guests to Bora Bora's other Intercontinental hotel, the Moana. This trip gives you the opportunity to visit Pointe Matira peninsula, on Bora Bora's main island.

The St. Regis is one of the finest luxury hotels Bora Bora has to offer. Located on a motu facing the east coast of Bora Bora, the estate is spacious (with 42-acre grounds) and double-fronted (facing both the ocean and the lagoon) and it has a spa alongside the lagoon (complete with a small private beach), several swimming pools, a total of 91 villas either on the motu or on stilts, some beautiful gardens, and, to top it all off, an elegant ambience. The only downside is the restaurants, which are over-priced, but then you could always head over to the main island of Bora Bora for lunch (a shuttle service is provided during the day, but this will incur an additional charge).
