A hotel right in the centre of the city (Grand Place is 164 ft away, and there is a view of the city hall's belfry from some of the rooms), with the comfort of the hotel chain Ibis (the essentials with no superfluous features and no bad surprises either), a breakfast buffet (which you can have out on the terrace in the summer) for a very reasonable price. A hotel to be picked without hesitation, if you can do without the decoration, the gym and the freshly squeezed juice for breakfast.

On Place Agora (Agora Square), n° 100 on rue du Marché aux Herbes (Marché aux Herbes street). You will be at Grand Place after a 2 minute walk via rue de la Colline (Colline street). Nearest underground station: Central railway station (a 5 min walk). Transfer time to Bruxelles Midi railway station on the underground train (arrivals and departures of the Thalys trains): 20 min from Central railway station (with a change).
Accommodation
7.20/10
Out of the 184 rooms of the hotel, 33 are triples and 20 are connecting rooms. They overlook Place Agora, the small Place Espagne (Spain Square, located at the back of the building) or onto rue de la Montagne (Montagne street). If you would like to have the most picturesque view, request a room on the upper floors (a total of 5), which look over Place Agora. From there, you will see the City Hall belfry (which towers above Grand Place). The rooms, not very spacious, have a surface area of 18m² at the most. Keep the volume of your luggage low, as well as your movements, the bathroom (equipped either with a shower or a bathtub) will just about allow you to turn around between the various facilities. There are two small bars of soap and a hair-dryer. The rest of the facilities favour comfort (quilt, flat-screen TV) over decoration (basic furniture). Air conditioning has been installed as well as a telephone. However, there is no mini-bar.
Overview
7.20/10
From the outside the building looks as old as Grand Place. That's not for nothing, as both building and hotel date from 1989. Inside, in this entirely non-smoking place, the communal areas consist of a reception, a rather functional one, which is extended by a bar and a breakfast hall. There is nothing special about the decoration (the basics of the chain are recognizable), but you will find some useful details, such as free access to documents containing all the addresses of museums, bars, restaurants and other places to go to in Brussels. Upstairs, each corridor has an ironing board and an iron available: this little "extra" comes with a little "down point", as there is nowhere to iron. You will therefore have to iron out the creases of your shirt or trousers under the possible gaze of other guests going back to their rooms. There is no gym either, which you will be able to compensate for by walking all over Brussels.
Food and drink
7.20/10
Breakfast is served buffet-style, with a great choice of food: cold cuts, cheese, sausages, scrambled eggs, bread rolls, pastries, fresh fruit (no freshly squeezed juice, though). The coffee is self-service, you will find a seat in the room furnished with wooden chairs and tables, with, as a surprising and original decorative feature; a chandelier made of tea cups, saucers, spoons and forks. From May to September, it is also possible to sit out on the terrace in the paved courtyard, closed-in by walls planted with bushes. After breakfast, the other meals are served at the bar: it is open 24 hours a day. An important detail if you are planning on a late arrival, or stopping out late on a partying spree. A snack will ease your hunger. The £8.80 snack menu for example is a hot tartine (baked cheese on bread), a dessert and a drink.
To know
In its category, the Ibis Brussels off Grand Place is one of the cheapest hotels in the historic centre. A hotel which you can pick out with your eyes closed for its location and good value for money. Be aware that the rooms are very simple, the amenities functional and the decoration plain. Accommodation tip: If you come with your family, request two connecting rooms, rather than a triple or a quadruple. To avoid piling into less than 215 sq ft...

il y a le novotel en face qui est bien mieux à tout niveau
Contrary to most of its Brussels counterparts, the Novotel is not housed in an old building... Opened in 1999, it was built around one of the city's architectural features: the Black Tower, a protected rampart dating back to the Middle Ages. However, although the view of the tower from inside the hotel make it somewhat original, the hotel's interior decor follows the standard classic Novotel concept found all over the globe. It is the ideal place for those who don't like surprises!
This is a central hotel which is well located for exploring the historical centre without having to walk too much. It is just a 5-minute walk from your room at the Grand-Place, past some of Brussels most significant buildings, such as the A La Mort Subite cafe-bar, the Galeries Saint-Hubert and the chocolate-maker Neuhaus (the inventor of praline). The rooms are not the most spacious, but children do stay free of charge in their parents' room. Another advantage: lunch for around £9.20, for a light bite with friends or to recover from an overindulgence of chips and chocolate!
Ibis Brussels Sainte-Catherine is chosen for its (relative) proximity to Grand Place and its unbeatable prices compared to other hotels situated near Grand Place. You will happily go back there, even if it's just for the district that it's in: The Sainte-Catherine district to be precise, with its market, its small shops, its village atmosphere, its fashionable bars and restaurants. Provided that you're looking for a place where you can go out and party, and that you are not too worried about the size of the rooms or the soundproofing of the building.
One of the top choices for a family break in the historic centre of Brussels, without blowing your budget, but without losing out on the quality either. The breakfast buffet is very copious, the bedrooms are comfortable (although they do not offer a great amount of space for 4 people), the design is stylish and contemporary (without being a "boutique-hotel" or a "design-hotel"), the Grand Place (central market square) is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. You can enjoy Brussels with your offspring!
As opposed to its sister establishment, the NH City Center, the NH Grand Place Arenberg is genuinely located in the city centre just a stone's throw away from the famous Grand Place. In terms of the facilities and decor, take the NH chain basics and add on to them. However, don't waste your time looking for leisure activities, as there are none!
Established in 1894, the Metropole is considered to be one of the capital's rare palaces, even if this notion doesn't really exist in Belgium. A historical hotel, it has seen several eras pass by, as witnessed in its eclectic decor: French Renaissance, Empire, Italian Baroque, Art Nouveau, Art Déco, Louis XVI and even Contemporary Classic! The icing on the cake though is its gourmet restaurant, of which you should take full advantage (unless your wallet prevents it!).
A chic new hotel which will be particularly appreciated by trendy hotel enthusiasts: Gregorian chant is played in the lift, the carpet in the bedrooms features a monastic motif and part of the cloister has been preserved in the courtyard. This is because The Dominican Brussels is housed in a former monastery. It provides comfortable accommodation, rather good food and above all, wine by the glass and tapas to nibble on. In the Lounge Bar, 100m from the Grand-Place, you can continue the evening.
At this top-level hotel, luxury makes its presence felt subtlely: the decor is restrained, the service personalised and attentive... It is a home from home, and "home" here means staying just next door to one of Europe's most beautiful medieval squares; it means a room as impeccable as a show-room and as snug as the one in your country retreat; it means a bathroom where you will want to bathe for hours; it means a gourmet restaurant and an Italian restaurant, to keep everyone happy. The Amigo Hotel carries its name well: from your very first stay, you will get along with it very well indeed!

Formerly known as the Toison d'Or, the Sofitel has changed a lot since its full renovation in 2008. It's now called Louise in honour of the elegant avenue that runs nearby. This highly modern and trendy establishment has become the place to be if you want to be seen, particularly in the Crystal Lounge. The hotel also enjoys one significant asset: it has one of the biggest indoor gardens in Brussels. Don't hesitate to visit this establishment for a drink or a bite to eat if you can't afford to spend the night.

Everyone is entitled to a Plaza, even Brussels! This one is not to be mistaken for the Plazas of Madrid, Paris, or Djerba... Located in the northern part of the city centre, the Brussels version is an institution in the Belgian capital city. In addition to its 5 stars, it boasts impeccable service, an elegant decor, and state-of-the-art amenities, not to mention a true gem: an old theatre that was used as a cinema and that has since been converted into a conference room.

The Conrad is a former stately home that opened as a hotel in 1993. It's therefore no surprise that the hotel is considered as a palace, even if such a notion is not one Belgium is familiar with. This luxury establishment comes complete with high-quality cuisine and access to a very decent spa. Very popular among heads of state and music stars, the establishment boasts a classical style and high-tech facilities.

The Manos Premier is appropriately named, being the first of the Manos family's hotels, and is located in houses that were once the home of middle-class Brussels residents. The hotel's sophisticated, classic setting takes you back to the times of Louis XV and Louis XVI. It boasts a 2,000m² garden, though its main advantage is its real basement spa. This small, intimate hotel with 53 guest rooms is a lovely place to stay!

This hotel is part of the new trend for the art-hotel: the bedrooms, decorated by fine arts students, offer guests the opportunity to sleep in a unique place (each room being distinguished from the others by an original fresco). This will change your perception of art and the hotel business in general. Try this hotel for your next weekend stay in Brussels - it is close enough to the historical centre for you to be able to do without public transport and, above all, it has a very trendy bar and restaurant area.
