    Location 4.16 /10

Despite that, it's probably best to get a taxi here, since the closest metro station (Schuman) is at least a ten-minute walk away from the Sofitel and you may find the hotel hard to locate. There is not much in the way of entertainment, except for there is in the square next to the hotel. During the weekend, the place livens up with the market and its famous chip stand that attracts crowds of people. Johnny Hallyday and Mike Jagger are said to have come here...

    Accommodation 9.45 /10

The hotel's 149 rooms are simple and well-lit, very much like the rest of the establishment. The bathrooms are done in the same vein, with glass partitions. All the amenities are extremely modern: 'MyBed' bed with the Sofitel label, plasma-screen TV, Italian designer furniture... All of the accommodation units come with tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini-bar with free water, a safe, a shoe-polishing kit, an umbrella, and a DVD player in the junior suites and prestige suites. The bathroom features a bathtub, a hair-dryer, and hospitality products from the L'Occitane or Hermès brands. The luxury rooms afford access to a shared terrace, and they also have the added bonuses of a free Internet connection and courtesy chocolates.

    Overview 7.95 /10

The lobby lies underneath a large glass roof (designed by the same firm as that of the European Commission), and looks like it has been created by the architect Guggenheim himself! The curves of the patio are reminiscent of the famous museum. As for the decor, the entrance hall cleverly blends simplicity (neutral tones, designer furniture) and original details (statue of a dog, Tintin drawings). This originality is carried down to the basement, with the artificial 'mini-beach' and its sand imported from some far-away paradise island. Around this little exotic gem, there is the gym, nice Turkish baths and a massage parlour. As all other Sofitel establishments, this one has a little library at the far end of the lobby. It's a good place to enjoy a cup of tea in a very British atmosphere! The luxury rooms come with a terrace and the suites afford an impressive view of the city.

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

The catering service is undeniably one of the Sofitel's main assets. It serves a delicious breakfast, consisting of fresh fruit, yogurts, home-made pastries, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheese, etc., with copious amounts of fresh fruit juice (orange, kiwi, grapefruit) and even champagne!
Recently renovated, the bar is divided into 3 areas: the counter, the bar and the restaurant. It opens for lunch and dinner, and offers a wide selection of French and international dishes, including elaborate starters (poultry mille-feuilles, foie gras from the Landes region and Parma ham), pasta, vegetarian dishes, fish, meat, snacks... In the summer and on weekends the menu is shortened to ten dishes or so. In the restaurant, the starter will cost around £12 to £16, and the main course will set you back £10 to £25.

    To know

The hotel is popular among business people (the Sofitel has 11 conference rooms), and is currently trying to attract more tourists. You may be interested to know that it has two car parks available for its guests.

Standing on Avenue Stéphanie, the aptly named Thon Hotel Bristol Stéphanie enjoys a prime location in one of the city's liveliest neighbourhoods. Opened in 1998, the establishment started renovations in 2007. After the completion of the lobby and conference rooms, the restaurant is scheduled to receive brand new walls. Despite the modern style of the common areas, only a third of the rooms have followed suit. The others are more traditional and break away completely from the rest of the hotel...

Inside, there are no surprises for those who are acquainted with the brand: all the standard NH features are there, making for a comfortable, modern, and unoriginal setting.

This highly modern and trendy establishment has become the place to be if you want to be seen, particularly in the Crystal Lounge. The hotel also enjoys one significant asset: it has one of the biggest indoor gardens in Brussels. The Conrad is a former stately home that opened as a hotel in 1993. It's therefore no surprise that the hotel is considered as a palace, even if such a notion is not one Belgium is familiar with. This luxury establishment comes complete with high-quality cuisine and access to a very decent spa. Very popular among heads of state and music stars, the establishment boasts a classical style and high-tech facilities.

Located just a few steps away from the European Parliament, the Léopold doesn't have as much character as many of the other hotels in Brussels. It comes as no surprise, then, that it mainly attracts people travelling on business. Classical in style, this hotel could do with some refurbishment, both in the rooms and in the common areas. However, the hotel can take pride in offering a peaceful environment, and appetising catering services.

Established in 1894, the Metropole is considered to be one of the capital's rare palaces, even if this notion doesn't really exist in Belgium. A historical hotel, it has seen several eras pass by, as witnessed in its eclectic decor: French Renaissance, Empire, Italian Baroque, Art Nouveau, Art Déco, Louis XVI and even Contemporary Classic!
