Surrounded by 12 acres of garden, the Quinta Jardim da Serra is an ideal place for people in search of relaxation in a quiet setting. It is located in a beautiful pink Quinta, and while the charm of the century-old house has been preserved, a far more modern part has also been added to allow its enlargement. The Quinta opened its doors in October 2003.

    Location 9.63 /10

At an altitude of 2,700 ft, the Quinta belongs to Funchal's neighbouring town, Câmara de Lobos. It takes a good 20 minutes to reach the capital, and the return journey is brutally steep! You should also allow a good half-hour to reach the airport.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

The Quinta Jardim da Serra has 57 rooms. There are three suites in the main house. You will feel rather like you are in your own home. Flowery fabrics dominate, but they are in perfect harmony with the white walls and pale-coloured wood parquet flooring. The other rooms are distributed over four floors in the newer building (48 standard rooms, 4 suites and two rooms for guests with disabilities). Most of the rooms overlook the garden and the valley. The standard rooms are decorated with contemporary paintings. The beige shades give the place a stylish appearance, and go well with the dark wooden furniture. You will find all the amenities you need: air conditioning, a television, safe, balcony, stocked mini-bar, international direct line and room service until midnight. In the bathroom, a hair-dryer and hospitality products are provided. The colour is either grey or beige marble, depending on the room.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The Quinta Jardim da Serra belongs to a 345-acre estate, and can be seen from afar due to its façades that are painted electric pink, the typical colour of old residences of Madeira. This century-old building, which dates back to the 18th century, houses the hotel's reception as well as certain other facilities. It looks more like a small lounge than a hotel lobby. The charm of the place is already apparent. Big, comfortable sofas are fitted opposite the marble and wood reception desk, which is set close to a big fireplace. The style here feels quite British. Upstairs you will find Henry's Bar, where you can enjoy a drink in very colourful armchairs. The second part of the hotel is newer, and is radically more modern. The indoor swimming pool is in the basement and enjoys a fine view of the surrounding hills through its bay windows. Deckchairs are fitted around the pool and on the outdoor terrace. There is a little bar too, the Miamo, for you to enjoy a cold drink at the poolside.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

Greenvalley, the main restaurant, is housed in the modern part of the hotel. Its decor is therefore contemporary and is very attractive. It is sparsely but suitably furnished, making for a very pleasant area overall. Installed under a veranda, the room is very bright and has a superb view of the surrounding hills. An outdoor terrace allows you to enjoy your lunch in the sun. The restaurant provides a buffet breakfast, with the other meals served "a la carte". Themed evenings are organised each week.

    To know

As the Quinta is perched up in the hills of Madeira, walking to Funchal is not really an option unless you feel like a good work-out. The establishment therefore provides a private shuttle service for its guests. The nearest town is therefore Câmara de Lobos, which is famed for its small fishing harbour. Levadas are also not far away for hikers.
