For a long time known as the Lido Palace, the newly-renamed H10 Blue Mar hotel enjoys a privileged location overlooking the beautiful Camp de Mar beach, which is famous for its restaurant located on an island accessed from the beach via a wooden walkway. This incredible view can be admired from all of the rooms, as well as from the relaxing chill out terrace. Unfortunately, the food here is rather disappointing. However, the hotel, which is reserved for adults only, has a good location and is equipped with a spa.

    Location 7.5 /10

On the south-west coast of Majorca in the small seaside resort of Camp de Mar, which is famous for its restaurant located on an island accessed from the beach via a wooden walkway. The H10 Blue Mar is located directly on the beachfront, 15 miles west of Palma. From here, it takes around 40 minutes to reach the airport, located approximately 22 mi away.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

With pink tiled flooring and white walls, all of the guest rooms are pleasant and nicely decorated. Measuring 21m², they feature a wooden desk, a painting and a mirror. The amenities are of a decent standard: a large flat-screen television with a number of channels, a refrigerated minibar, individual air-conditioning, an electronic safe (which costs approximately £2 per day to use, plus a £4.50 deposit) and free Wi-Fi access. However, there is no room service. The rooms also have a large balcony equipped with two chairs, a small, round wooden table and a washing line, all looking out over the sea. They are well soundproofed. The bathroom, decorated with pretty patterns, comprises a bathtub with a flexible showerhead, a toilet, a bidet, a make-up mirror, a number of hospitality products (a handkerchief, a comb, a toothbrush kit, shower gel, soap and shampoo) and a basic hair-dryer attached to the wall. The hotel also has 17 junior suites that measure 50m².

    Overview 7.70 /10

Upon your arrival in the ultra-modern and trendy lobby, you are greeted with a glass of Champagne or lemon water to be enjoyed while relaxing on one of the large square pouffes, which are white like the rest of the lobby. You can enjoy a wide range of cocktails at the bar from 10:30am until midnight. A 6-storey building served by two lifts holds the 101 guest rooms. Currently under construction, the chill out terrace will feature large beds with white mattresses and cushions, as well as a hot tub, from which guests will be able to admire the view of Camp de Mar beach. The oval-shaped swimming pool also has a hot tub area and can be accessed by guests with reduced mobility. It slopes from 1m10 to 2m20 deep and is open from 8:00am to 8:00pm The area for sunbathing that surrounds it is dotted with plastic deckchairs, white fabric parasols, and showers. As there is no organised entertainment here, the setting is peaceful. Towels are available from reception for a deposit of £17.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

This is the H10 Blue Mar's weak point. The bright and airy restaurant can accommodate up to 120 guests and incorporates a tapas bar decorated with azulejos (painted ceramic tile work) in Mediterranean colours (blue and white). The problem is not with the room, however, but with the quality of the buffet itself. The choice is limited and the food isn't great (lukewarm dishes, overdone and dry meat, gelatinous English desserts, etc.). We also felt the service needed to be improved: drinks are not always included and you have to pay for them as they are served... The international-style buffet includes a show cooking area and there are a number of theme evenings (tapas, Italian, German, Mexican, etc.). Breakfast is decent, but nothing special. The orange juice and coffee are average, as are the pancakes, but the eggs were overcooked and the sausages were a little cold. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10.30am, lunch from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, and dinner from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Guests can also grab a bite to eat throughout the day from the snack bar next to the swimming pool.

    Beach 8.20 /10

Camp de Mar beach lies right in front of the hotel. It is accessed via a gate next to the swimming pool, which guests can open using the same magnetic key card used to access their room. This is a beautiful little cove with crystal-clear waters (you'll even spot some fish) and surrounded by mountains. Sheltered from the waves and currents, it is almost like a lake. What's more, it is an ideal spot for snorkelling, as the water gets deep very quickly. On the beach you'll find a playground for children, pedalo boats for hire, showers, restaurants and bars. Moreover, a wooden bridge links it to a tiny island with a restaurant. The beach is supervised by lifeguards and a flag indicates the safety level for swimming. Plastic deckchairs and straw parasols can be hired for around £7 per day. Although the beach can get quite busy and it's not very spacious, it must be said that the setting is truly magnificent.

    To know

Originally known as the Lido Palace when it was built in 1967, the Blue Mar hotel, as it is now called, is managed by the H10 Hotels and Resorts Group, which is based in Barcelona. To mark this change in name, the H10 Blue Mar underwent major renovation work in 2012, which notably included the construction of the chill out terrace that affords beautiful views of Camp de Mar beach. What's more, the new design of the all-white lobby sets the tone in this now more upscale address. Open from 1st May to 28th October, the establishment is reserved for adults only (over 16s). Free parking is available in front of the hotel.
