The Quinta Splendida will strike you as soon as you arrive at the reception. Sheltered by high ceilings, it is located in a pretty little building which, just like the rest of the establishment, has been painted pink, the traditional colour of old Madeiran residences. Two lounges with wicker furniture are located opposite. Once outside, you will discover a superb panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, visible from all parts of the establishment. You will then, no doubt, visit the garden, a true pleasure. No fewer than six people are responsible for the daily upkeep of the grounds, which are divided into four sections: the main entrance and the reception, the original manor house, the "Vegetable garden", used solely for the chef's aromatic plants, and the area surrounding the swimming pool. Each section is home to very distinct species. It is a real pleasure to wander along the paths discovering all the plants. Novice botanists may find help from the small signs stating the name of each plant.
The year-round heated pool at the Quinta is located in the middle of the garden. This large rectangular pool is surrounded by deckchairs and parasols. The area is very quiet, ideal for a quick siesta in the sun, or even in the shade. The 15,000 sq ft Spa, located on the lower floor, has also been a success. The hot to cold and vice-versa cycle is perfectly observed between the sauna, the Scottish shower, the ice fountain, the Turkish bath, etc. A 27° heated swimming pool and 10 separate rooms, including one for couples, are also available. A wide range of treatments is also offered: for the face and for the body, as well as Balinese, Thai, Swedish, etc. massages. Guests staying in suites may use the spa facilities free of charge, whereas a charge of £14.90 per day applies to other guests.
