Nothing compares to this site. Located on the northern tip of Sardinia, Capo Testa is a peninsula that projects westwards into the sea and the Grand Hotel Colonna Capo Testa stands at the beginning of the isthmus, with direct access to a gorgeous beach. The hotel is host to a sophisticated international clientele seeking tranquillity, although it is actually fairly pretentious in regards to the uneven standards in the services it offers.

    Location 7.0 /10

The Colonna Capo Testa is located 2 mi southwest from Santa Teresa Gallura, Sardinia's northernmost town. Olbia airport is 47 mi away and Porto Cervo, which is the heart of Costa Smeralda, lies 30 mi away. The setting is simply superb, with bare rocks polished by the waves dipping into turquoise waters and the Corsican coast in the background. The hotel is 3 quarters surrounded by the sea. A few bars, restaurants and shops have set up residence on the Cape, a few hundred metres from the hotel.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

With Sardinian-style light colours, beautiful painted wood furniture and tile flooring, the 126 guestrooms are very pleasant, bright and perfectly adapted to their surroundings. Large pieces of fabric stretched above the beds give a very original four-poster bed effect. The balconies fitted with a table and chairs aren't very spacious but they do have a minimal side view of the sea. Facilities such as a free safe, individual air conditioning, a stocked mini bar and a CRT television are available.
The bathrooms do not have windows and the amenities are kept to a minimum: a shower and a washbasin. The welcome toiletries kit is quite complete but there aren't any bathrobes for the guests.

If you come with your family, you will be able to reserve one of the thirty pairs of connecting rooms, and if you can afford it, a suite and a junior suite are at your disposal.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The architects who designed the Colonna cleverly took advantage of the exceptional setting: the series of 4 little pools leading to the sea are quite alluring! A constant call for dipping in! The 3 storey Mediterranean-style building was built in 1980 but it was renovated from top to bottom in 2005. The lawns and trees of the garden are very neatly trimmed, complementing an already enchanting backdrop.
The Colonna Capo Testa has a gym equipped with quality facilities but as far as exercise is concerned, it is especially well located for water sports: jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, sea-kayaking and surfing - a real treat for water lovers. However, there aren't any sports at all to be enjoyed on the ground. As entertainment is limited to the children's club, you had better be on a sun tanning mission if you are staying in the hotel. A small room that opens widely onto the outside is dedicated to massages.
Several bars are available to quench your thirst. The first one is next to the beautiful lobby, where live piano shows are performed. It has a terrace and is a really nice place to spend the evening. The other bar is near the pools.

    Food and drink 8.00 /10

As it has two restaurants that look out over the sea, the Colonna associates cuisine with a view. The food is good but beware of high prices. If you have opted for the bed and breakfast option, do not forget to include the price of meals into your budget. The main panoramic restaurant serves breakfast as a buffet and the other meals are served la carte, with a particular focus on local and seasonal products, as well as products from the sea.
The second restaurant, 'La Pagoda' is an open-air restaurant located next to the pool, open in high season only. Light meals are served out on the terrace for lunch.

    Beach 7.70 /10

Right on the beach! The Grand Hotel Colonna Capo Testa couldn't actually be any closer, as it has a private beach with direct access. Moreover, guests simply have to cross the dam road to reach a beach that looks out into the other direction. The sea in this area is among the roughest in Sardinia, with strong currents forming in the Straight of Bonifacio, but the beach of the Colonna, with a southern orientation, is fairly sheltered. It is possible to swim (the water is clear despite the waves and a little seaweed) but it is idyllic for water sports (surfing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, sea-kayaking, etc). The beach here is a stretch of sand equipped with parasols and plastic deck chairs.
