    Location 5.7 /10

The Almond Morgan Bay is located next to the beach, mid-way between Castries and Rodney Bay. No lively areas can be reached easily on foot, though. The centre of Castries is a short 10-minute drive away, depending on the traffic. Allow about an hour and a half to get to Hewanorra international airport.

    Accommodation 7.10 /10

The Morgan Bay offers no fewer than eight categories of rooms and suites. However, even within each category there are differences. For example, two different kinds of room can be labelled 'standard'; it all depends on the building where they are located. Most of them are on the ground floor, none of them have sea views, and they can all accommodate either up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. The standard rooms are also located in the hotel's outlying buildings, so they are a bit of a walk away from the beach, sports facilities and main restaurants.
In actual fact, it is the interior decor that changes from building to building. The furniture might be black or light-coloured, and the style either of a more traditional Caribbean type or more contemporary. Wherever you end up staying, the facilities in the rooms are good quality and comprehensive (air-conditioning, television, mini-bar, safe, hair-dryer, etc.). There are even tea and coffee-making facilities and an iron and ironing board. The bathrooms are fairly large and well designed, and are fitted with a bathtub.

    Overview 6.60 /10

The Morgan Bay was bought by Almond Resorts in 2005, before which it was a Wyndham establishment. It was built in the 1990's, and its 340 guest rooms make it one of the largest hotels on Saint Lucia. The vast resort is arranged around a central area that runs down to the beach and contains the two main swimming pools, the pool bar, four of the five restaurants, and the stage where the shows are held. The guest rooms are situated on the hillsides around this area, in 3- or 4-storey buildings with multi-coloured façades (pink, blue, orange or yellow). The whole place has a very lively feel to it.

For a bit of peace and quiet, you will need to head for the two more remote parts of the hotel. The first of these, Tommy's Bar, serves a large selection of rums next to the small adults-only swimming pool; the second is the children's club paddling pool, which has its own restaurant next to the spa (nothing special) and sports facilities (gym, 4 tennis courts and a basketball pitch).

Everything is also provided to keep babies, children and teenagers occupied. There are different categories of children's clubs depending on the age group (0-23 months, 2-4 years, 5-7 years, 8-12 years and 13-16 years), and each has its own area and a programme of activities organised by English-speaking coordinators.

    Food and drink 7.90 /10

As the five restaurants are all covered by the all-inclusive package, you can enjoy plenty of variety. However, although you are free to come and go in the case of the buffet restaurants, you will need to reserve at the others. This is the case at Morgan's Pier, for example, which is positioned on the jetty that juts out from the beach, and serves up seafood dishes with fine views of the Caribbean Sea.
Le Jardin is a different style of restaurant. It is reserved for adults only (16 years and over), and prepares French and Creole specialities. Bambou opens for breakfast, and serves Asian cuisine as a buffet for lunch and as an à la carte option in the evening. The Plum Tree restaurant is next to the children's area and sports facilities, and remains open all day long, serving pizzas, salads, pasta, etc. Finally, The Palm is the main restaurant, and is open for the three meals of the day, serving international cuisine as a buffet.
When it comes down to it, although the setting is nothing special, the decor of the themed restaurants is a success, and you'll be really spoilt for choice!

    Beach 7.90 /10

Morgan Bay beach is deep inside a little cove lined with coconut trees. It is not a completely natural setting because its southern end is artificially blocked off by the jetty. This is a pleasant place, but the deckchairs are arranged very close to one another. To find a bit of peace and quiet, you will have to look further afield and, above all, avoid the busy times of day. The bars are very nearby, and a water sports centre run by the complex offers a wide range of non-motorised activities.

    To know

The Morgan Bay only offers a complete American-style 'all inclusive' option. The only things not included in the price are bottles of wine, diving, spa treatments, outings, transfers, the laundry service and babysitting.
