Designed by a famous skier in 1973, you won't be surprised to learn that the Annapurna is adapted to fans of this winter sport. This establishment is located not at the foot of but actually directly on the slopes! What's more, it's the hotel with the highest location in the Courchevel 1850 resort. You can therefore jump straight out of your slippers and into your ski boots. Then, after a long, hard day skiing, this 5 star hotel provides all the comfort you could need thanks to the relaxing guest rooms, spa and large restaurant, all of which afford an unobstructed view of the slopes.

    Location 3.0 /10

Perched on one of the ski slopes in Courchevel, the Annapurna provides direct access for those wishing to partake in this exciting activity. What's more, it has the highest location of all the hotels in the Courchevel 1850 resort. It takes just under ten minutes to travel down to the village by shuttle bus. Guests can get information from reception regarding shuttle departure times.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

Of the Annapurna's 76 guest rooms and suites, only around twenty (which are traditional in style) have yet to be refurbished. The ones that have already undergone renovation also feature the traditional mountain-style decor but have been entirely revamped. Both here and in the communal areas, wood is the dominant feature. However, compared to the reddish wood that was previously used, the wood now used comes from the local ash trees so is lighter in colour. There are five room categories to choose from: standard (with a view of the valley), deluxe (30m), junior suite (45m), Annapurna suite (60m) and the three large suites. There's nothing special to be said about the amenities provided, which include a minibar, a safe, a plasma screen television with a DVD player, a balcony, and a bathroom with a bathtub and a shower in almost every room, but we did miss the lack of tea and coffee-making facilities.

    Overview 8.70 /10

Once upon a time, Alexis Pinturo, a talented professional skier, decided to make his dreams come true and open a luxury establishment in 1973. This is where the Annapurna's adventure began. For those who are interested, the hotel has a display case devoted to the skier where guests can learn more about the former champion. Though we are far from Nepal here, there are a few photos displayed in the corridors to remind guests of the origin of the hotel's name. The rest of the hotel is decorated in a chic mountain style, with the omnipresent wood features. Even though it is a 5 star hotel, the Annapurna Courchevel does not neglect its younger guests. It has a luxury games room that includes a ball pit, ping pong, table football and video games, among other things. If that isn't enough, the little ones can always choose to enjoy the swimming pool and jacuzzi with their parents while admiring a view of the slopes! The only disappointment was that the massage rooms are located off of a corridor on the ground floor. Last but not least, the hotel also has a shop where you can rent ski equipment and a storage room for keeping it in at night.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

The principal features of the restaurant are its bay windows and fireplace. Open from 7:00am to 10:30am, 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and 7:30pm to 9:30pm, the restaurant can seat up to 160 guests around its elegant round tables. What will no doubt impress guests the most is the view of the slopes and the food that is served here. Indeed, the menu is composed of a wide range of options. Pride of place is given to French cuisine, with a number of classic meat and fish-based dishes (special mention goes to the delicious grilled sole) and vegetarian dishes reinvented by the chef. Note that those staying on the half-board formula can choose from a different set menu every evening.

    To know

Like the majority of the hotels in the area, the Annapurna is open from mid-December to mid-April. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
Those travelling on business will be pleased to hear that the Annapurna also has a large modular seminar room.

Although you may see many luxury hotels in Courchevel, you won't see many palaces. In fact, there are just two: the Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles. Opened in 1992, the establishment is also catalogued by the luxurious Leading Hotels of the World chain. With its charming traditional decor, its Cellcosmet spa and its restaurants, including one with 2 Michelin stars, Les Airelles deserves its distinction. This is a great place to stay, provided you can afford it!

The K2 Hotel is located close to the centre of the Courchevel resort and the Croisette. This hotel village stretches along the Cospillot slope, offering guests an incomparable panorama of the valley and mountain massifs.

It's hard to recognise the Hotel Les Grandes Alpes, one of the oldest establishments in the resort, since it underwent a complete renovation. The establishment now offers a concept that is unique in the resort: apartments with a well-being centre and hotel service. Here, instead of rooms there are apartments, the smallest of which measures 150m. Don't bother looking for the restaurant as the accommodation comes with its own fully-equipped kitchen.

At a time when luxury hotels are popping up all over the streets of Courchevel 1850, the Manali is the only 5 star establishment in the 1650 resort. Far from the bling of the ritzy shops located at the highest point of the villages, the Manali rigorously holds onto its secrets, and what secrets they are. Other than the impeccable service and the irreproachable cuisine, the establishment has a decor and a theme all of its owned dreamt up by its owners. Add to this the two level 'Cinq Mondes' spa and no doubt about it, the Manali is one of our favourite places in all of Courchevel!

Opened in 1958, the Lana is an institution in the Courchevel resort. Renovated every year, this 5-star establishment is still under transformation, notably in a handful of bedrooms and its indoor swimming pool. However, the rest of the hotel was renovated as recently as 2010. A member of the Tournier Group, in the same category as the Saint Roch, the Saint Joseph and the Pralong, the Lana also benefits from an ideal location at the base of the slopes.

It all began in 1963 when a young couple purchased a small chalet with 9 guest rooms. 50 years later, the couple in question, Mr. and Mrs. Rochedy, are at the head of an institution with 41 guest rooms, one of the largest spas in the Alps and a Michelin star restaurant. The Chabichou may have chosen to rank itself as 'only' a 4-star establishment, but its restaurant gives it an extra two, and makes it one of the most well-known and luxurious hotels in Courchevel, where it is a pleasure to stay or to at least dine!
