It's hard to recognise the Hotel Les Grandes Alpes, one of the oldest establishments in the resort, since it underwent a complete renovation. The establishment now offers a concept that is unique in the resort: apartments with a well-being centre and hotel service. Here, instead of rooms there are apartments, the smallest of which measures 150m². Don't bother looking for the restaurant as the accommodation comes with its own fully-equipped kitchen.

    Location 9.81 /10

Les Grandes Alpes is located in the centre of the village, opposite the tourist office in Courchevel 1850. Although the hotel is not far from the slopes, it doesn't offer direct access like some of its neighbours.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

Here, you don't talk about rooms but rather apartments. While the smallest accommodation measures a good 150m² and has three bedrooms, the largest is a sizeable 300m². Note that some of the apartments can be divided up on request in certain periods. All of them have a sitting area with a fireplace, a television lounge and a kitchen dining room. The number of bathrooms, of course, depends on the size of the apartment and the number of bedrooms. As far as the decor is concerned, the hotel has gone for a simple, elegant look, while in terms of facilities, Les Grandes Alpes have gone for perfection. In addition to the usual amenities (free Wi-Fi, safe, telephone etc.), there is also an iPad in the lounge, a fully-equipped kitchen with a butler, a small wine cellar, Bose brand speakers and balconies. There are even separate toilets for visitors! Note that two of the nine apartments also have a private hammam and a massage table. Everything you could need for a luxury holiday, provided you can afford it!

    Overview 8.20 /10

If you hadn't heard of Les Grandes Alpes during its first 40 years in business, you would be forgiven for thinking that it was a new hotel, especially on entering the brand-spanking new lobby with its parquet floor. Entirely renovated in 2011, Les Grandes Alpes is unrecognisable as the classic hotel it once was. After being run by the same family for 40 years, the hotel was taken over and transformed into a 5-star apartment hotel. It is currently, at the time of writing, the first and only hotel of this type in the resort. Guests have all the advantages of the privacy of a luxury apartment, as well as a hotel service: reception, concierge, room service, valet, housekeeper, etc. They can also take advantage of the Valmont brand spa, superb swimming pool, ski storage facility, small gym and games room.

    Food and drink

Although Les Grandes Alpes once had a restaurant, that's now ancient history; Le Dénali was sold. However, there is still direct access to the restaurant via the hotel, and guests can make the most of the room service menu. The caviar comes out at between £215-£430, the foie gras around £25, the salmon at around £50, the club sandwich £20, and the fondue £60. Breakfast, included in the price of the accommodation, is served in the apartments and prepared by the butler. Note that Les Grandes Alpes also has a bar and tearoom. It is one of the only hotels to offer this type of service.

    To know

Like most of the hotels in the resort, Les Grandes Alpes is open from mid-December to mid-April and closes for the rest of the year.

Although you may see many luxury hotels in Courchevel, you won't see many palaces. In fact, there are just two: the Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles. Opened in 1992, the establishment is also catalogued by the luxurious Leading Hotels of the World chain. With its charming traditional decor, its Cellcosmet spa and its restaurants, including one with 2 Michelin stars, Les Airelles deserves its distinction. This is a great place to stay, provided you can afford it!

The K2 Hotel is located close to the centre of the Courchevel resort and the Croisette. This hotel village stretches along the Cospillot slope, offering guests an incomparable panorama of the valley and mountain massifs.

Opened in 1958, the Lana is an institution in the Courchevel resort. Renovated every year, this 5-star establishment is still under transformation, notably in a handful of bedrooms and its indoor swimming pool. However, the rest of the hotel was renovated as recently as 2010. A member of the Tournier Group, in the same category as the Saint Roch, the Saint Joseph and the Pralong, the Lana also benefits from an ideal location at the base of the slopes.

At a time when luxury hotels are popping up all over the streets of Courchevel 1850, the Manali is the only 5 star establishment in the 1650 resort. Far from the bling of the ritzy shops located at the highest point of the villages, the Manali rigorously holds onto its secrets, and what secrets they are. Other than the impeccable service and the irreproachable cuisine, the establishment has a decor and a theme all of its owned dreamt up by its owners. Add to this the two level 'Cinq Mondes' spa and no doubt about it, the Manali is one of our favourite places in all of Courchevel!

It all began in 1963 when a young couple purchased a small chalet with 9 guest rooms. 50 years later, the couple in question, Mr. and Mrs. Rochedy, are at the head of an institution with 41 guest rooms, one of the largest spas in the Alps and a Michelin star restaurant. The Chabichou may have chosen to rank itself as 'only' a 4-star establishment, but its restaurant gives it an extra two, and makes it one of the most well-known and luxurious hotels in Courchevel, where it is a pleasure to stay or to at least dine!

In addition to the bar and restaurant, the hotel also has a spa, a library, a lounge and a luxurious ski storage room.
