At a time when luxury hotels are popping up all over the streets of Courchevel 1850, the Manali is the only 5 star establishment in the 1650 resort. Far from the bling of the ritzy shops located at the highest point of the villages, the Manali rigorously holds onto its secrets, and what secrets they are. Other than the impeccable service and the irreproachable cuisine, the establishment has a decor and a theme all of its owned dreamt up by its owners. Add to this the two level 'Cinq Mondes' spa and no doubt about it, the Manali is one of our favourite places in all of Courchevel!

    Location 4.71 /10

The only 5 star hotel in Courchevel 1650, the Manali is slightly setback from the main road and just a little higher up. The centre of the village is just a few minutes away on foot.

    Accommodation 8.95 /10

In Manali, the talk isn't of guest rooms or lodgings but of 'units'. Divided into 4 categories (classic, family, deluxe and suite), the latter also have three different styles of decor: Indian (the most numerous), Swiss Alps (only in two suites) and Canadian. Each of these themes is expressed through the wood used in the decor and how it is used: light wood in the Canadian suites, orange and red shades and carpeting in the Indian suites, and parquet flooring and woodworking in the Swiss suites. In terms of amenities, every unit is the same in its own category but the welcome gifts are standard throughout: fresh flowers, a new bottle of water every day, lip balm, a cuddly toy for children, etc. The views are all gorgeous but we strongly recommend the breathtaking one over the Dent du Villard.

    Overview 9.20 /10

Opened in January 2008, the Manali owes its existence to two friends. Two skiers who love to travel. It didn't take more than that to seduce the travellers in us! The Manali is not one to rest on its laurels. Since its opening, the games room for children and the restaurant dining room have already been redone. Concealed in the heights of the village, the Manali has aimed for discretion. There are several steps to reach the lobby: first an intermediate reception as guests climb out of their cars, while the 'real' one is located on the third floor. In terms of the decor, guests will discover an Indian mountain-style theme, which is one of the three themes in the hotel and one of the trips the owners have been on. To discover the others, they'll have to wait until they get to the guest rooms. In the meantime, there are other secrets to be discovered in the common areas, like the 'Cinq Mondes' spa spread out on two levels. Although it isn't the most spacious one we've ever visited, it has nothing to envy its neighbours, thanks to its pretty Zen decor and its well-maintained equipment. Add to this the gym, a games room, a ski locker and the slopes at the foot of the hotel and you get one of our favourite spots in Courchevel.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

Although it is a rather new establishment, the restaurant was entirely revamped in 2012. Located in the extension of the bar, the decor here is in keeping with the Indian theme in the rest of the hotel. So as to create a more cosy atmosphere, the management decided to replace the parquet flooring with fitted carpeting. The tables are set up a fair distance from each other, which means that guests are able to have a little bit of privacy. Discreet and irreproachable, the service team includes a sommelier who is passionate about his calling. As for the menu, the focus is on quality rather than quantity, especially in the evening. We have no doubt, though, that everyone will find something to suit their tastes. French cuisine may be the highlight here, but the recipes have been created by chef Christophe Salin. "Quick and original" for lunch, elaborate in the evening. There is the possibility to stay here on a half-board package, in which case guests enjoy a 3-course meal for dinner (starter, main, dessert).

Although you may see many luxury hotels in Courchevel, you won't see many palaces. In fact, there are just two: the Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles. Opened in 1992, the establishment is also catalogued by the luxurious Leading Hotels of the World chain. With its charming traditional decor, its Cellcosmet spa and its restaurants, including one with 2 Michelin stars, Les Airelles deserves its distinction. This is a great place to stay, provided you can afford it!

This hotel village stretches along the Cospillot slope, offering guests an incomparable panorama of the valley and mountain massifs.

It's hard to recognise the Hotel Les Grandes Alpes, one of the oldest establishments in the resort, since it underwent a complete renovation. The establishment now offers a concept that is unique in the resort: apartments with a well-being centre and hotel service. Here, instead of rooms there are apartments, the smallest of which measures 150m˛. Don't bother looking for the restaurant as the accommodation comes with its own fully-equipped kitchen.

Opened in 1958, the Lana is an institution in the Courchevel resort. Renovated every year, this 5-star establishment is still under transformation, notably in a handful of bedrooms and its indoor swimming pool. However, the rest of the hotel was renovated as recently as 2010. A member of the Tournier Group, in the same category as the Saint Roch, the Saint Joseph and the Pralong, the Lana also benefits from an ideal location at the base of the slopes.

It all began in 1963 when a young couple purchased a small chalet with 9 guest rooms. 50 years later, the couple in question, Mr. and Mrs. Rochedy, are at the head of an institution with 41 guest rooms, one of the largest spas in the Alps and a Michelin star restaurant. The Chabichou may have chosen to rank itself as 'only' a 4-star establishment, but its restaurant gives it an extra two, and makes it one of the most well-known and luxurious hotels in Courchevel, where it is a pleasure to stay or to at least dine!

Opened in 1956, Le Melezin has preserved only the best of a distant era: the parquet floor in the communal areas. The rest has all been renovated over the years to give it its contemporary classical appearance. Despite the small number of guest rooms, Le Melezin offers a number of facilities. In addition to the bar and restaurant, the hotel also has a spa, a library, a lounge and a luxurious ski storage room.
