    • To know

    • The Mövenpick Ulysse Palace is located on the beach of Sidi Mahrez, at the end of the hotel zone. It is 6 miles away from from Houmt Souk and 12 miles away from the airport (expect 20 to 25 minutes for the transfer).

    • It has 242 rooms, of which 4 quad ones and 17 suites. To have a terrace, stay on the garden level, but no view of the sea in this case, even if the building is oriented towards it, because the vegetation hides part of the beach. On the other hand, the panorama over the coast is guaranteed for the 150 rooms "view of the sea" located on the other floors. They have a balcony. Idem for the "prestige" rooms, those we like the best, with their sofa that can be a third bed in an alcove, their furniture mixing wrought iron to cushions with Mediterranean colours (yellow and light orange). Furthermore, you are served as VIP, with fruit baskets, pastries and bottle of mineral water when you arrive. As for features, everything has been prepared: satellite television, direct telephone, safe, minibar, air conditioning and a big bathroom with bathtub, hairdryer and small basket of welcoming products.
    • Two-storey building, the hotel is characterised by a comfortable interior architecture using mostly arches, columns, and halls in a row. With a moorish inspiration decor, while the exterior with light frontages mounted of cupolas reminds of the Djerbian menzels. On the beach side, a semi-olympic swimming pool is furnished in such a way that the edge, when you swim, is in the same plan as the sea. A tiled terrace, added to two other solarium terraces overlooking the sea and the beach. Teak lounge chairs, white fabric square sunshades... Features of a high standing hotel. A beach attendant is present to hand out beach towels. If the weather is rather cool, the indoor swimming pool (opened all year around) takes over the outdoor pool. With 49 x 23 ft, it has a glass bay window overlooking the gardens on one side and the beach on the other side.
    • There are 3 restaurants and 6 bars. The buffet restaurant, furnished on several levels and bordered by a large bay window (with terrace) is very nice. You can take breakfast with Tunisian bread, omelettes, cheese, delicatessen, breads and viennoiseries, as well as unexpected recipes like English pudding or Suisse potatoes. You enjoy fresh orange juice different from concentrated juices. In the evening, there is also a buffet. You can taste different dishes (there is always at least one Tunisian speciality), and soups, mixed salads, and grilled foods for those who want to eat light. For eating la carte, the Neptune offers fish and seafood specialities while El Malouf allows to eat Tunisian. Among the bars, there is the Moorish café to drink mint tea, and smoke chicha.
    • The hotel's Ulysse Thalasso & Spa offers a wide range of treatments and massages using cosmetic products from the French brands Algotherm and Decléor, as well as the Swiss brand Mavala. Thalassotherapy enthusiasts recommend it as one of the places for therapeutic treatments, stress relief and and rejuvenation. Comprehensive facilities, a semi-outdoor seawater circuit and qualified personnel are all guaranteed! Make sure to take full advantage as the prices here are much lower than in France for this level of service. This thalassotherapy centre has been awarded the SPA-A Quality Label. With direct access from the hotel, the 3,500m² Ulysse Thalasso & Spa is one of the top establishments in Tunisia. It is open all day from 9:00am to 7:00pm. It has 60 treatment rooms, 13 individual massage rooms, one Shiatsu room and five energy massage rooms including one for couples. A variety of treatments are available (Ayurvedic or hot stone massages, seaweed wraps, jet showers, etc.), either à la carte or as a package. It also has a salt water swimming pool heated to 33°C, half inside half outside, that is off limits to under 16s, with Roman columns, hydromassage jets and pool beds, as well as a cold salt water swimming pool, a counter current walking circuit, and an rectangular indoor pool with free access surrounded by wooden deckchairs topped with cushions. Aquagym classes are run here. There are also waterbeds, a relaxation room with herbal tea, a sauna with a sea view, and a traditional hammam with a sea view (three rooms at 30, 40 and 50°C). Note that the neighbouring Radisson Blu Palace Resort Thalasso is run by the same team. This thalassotherapy centre has been awarded the SPA-A Quality Label.
    • Location by the water: you go down a small staircase down from the swimming pool and you are there. The hotel has a 1,640 feet long and 164 to 492 feet wide space on the beautiful beach of Sidi Mahrez. Lounge chairs are set in a row where the beach is the narrowest and on four rows where the beach is wider. Plastic lounge chairs and mattresses under straw sunshades. A beach bar allow you to refresh and eat a snack during the day. For a more sophisticated meal, with panoramic view over the sea, try the Neptune, an à la carte restaurant with fish and seafood.
    • The Mövenpick Ulysse Palace is one of the surest values in Djerba. Golf players meet there, in all seasons, to play one or several greens in the Djerba Golf Club (the hotel proposes a free shuttle and well thought entrance rates). Amateurs of thalassatherapy give the address of the centre as one of the places to choose first to take a therapeutic treatment, beat stress or recondition. Complete and spacious features (30 massage cabins), semi-exterior marine stretch, qualified people, esthetic care with Phytomer and La Prairie products...

      Accommodation advice:
All rooms overlook the sea, but it could be from the side, or better from the front. The "swimming pool and sea" view is the one with the Mediterranean on the side. The "sea" view is the one in the front. Be careful, the "sea views" are less spacious than the "swimming pool and sea views" (258 ft² against 409 ft²).

The Dar El Bhar has distinctive charm, with its small number of rooms which are all decorated differently. Built in the style of a Tunisian home, with a studded wooden entrance gate and a central courtyard leading up to it, it is perfect for a weekend for two in a terrace suite overlooking the Mediterranean, with the discreet luxury of a four-poster bed and a bath with massage jets. The prices read like a hotel-club brochure, it would certainly be a pity to go without!

The Hasdrubal Prestige is the most luxurious hotel in Djerba, but that is not the only reason to choose this establishment. It possesses a number of unique infrastructures, including its outdoor 'three waters' swimming-pool which features several pools filled with seawater, freshwater and thermal water. The hotel's thalassotherapy centre is also out of this world; it includes a glass-covered marine walkway, private cabins and bathtubs filled with seawater or freshwater, depending on the treatment you choose. It is preferable to come to see and experience this hotel in the off-season; it won't be too crowded and your booking will be a little cheaper.

This hotel is worth staying at for its thalassotherapy centre, numerous outdoor swimming pools (during the summer season), its indoor swimming pool and seawater treatment centre (for when the weather is not so good) and its comfortable rooms designed for couples or families with one child, rather than large families (although some of the rooms are adjoining). If you wish to indulge in thalassotherapy treatments and save money on your accommodation, the complex has a second, cheaper hotel just next-door: the Sirènes Beach.

The Sirènes Beach hotel belongs to the same complex as the Sirènes Thalasso, but offers a simpler style of accommodation, hence its local star rating being one lower, at 3 instead of 4. Its first floor rooms overlooking the sea and the outdoor areas centred around several swimming pools make it a great summer destination. Guests can also take advantage of the thalassotherapy facilities onsite, but the hotel is not directly linked to the centre, unlike the Sirènes Thalasso.
