This ecotourism complex looks like a typical little village of Crete, with its small houses surrounded by flowers and shaded lanes. The decor is colourful and the welcome is friendly. This 600-acre farm offers guests a place where they can spend a unique holiday discovering the nature via hikes, bike rides or even on the back of a donkey, and also experience the daily life of the locals. The inviting atmosphere makes it easy to communicate with the other visitors and the inhabitants of the region.

    Location 3.0 /10

The Enagron is located next to the village of Axos, which has been inhabited for 4,000 years, at the foot of the sacred Mount Psiloritis, the highest mountain on the island. It is 27 miles from Heraklion and 27 miles from Rethymnon. The Enagron is located in the backcountry at the heart of the mountains of Crete. The closest beaches, Panomos and Stavromenos, are just under 19 miles away.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

The lodgings are actually small one and two-storey houses. Their surface area varies between 35m² and 75m². They consist of either studios or one or two bedroom apartments that can accommodate between two to six people. Fully equipped, they even have a kitchenette with a refrigerator where you can prepare your own meals. The exposed beams and the use of wood in the architecture inside give the surroundings an authentic atmosphere that has a very natural feel.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The Enagron's eight residences were built following the traditional local architectural style. The common areas are quite large and have been splendidly decorated (with antique objects, tools and paintings). The buildings blend in with the landscape and the surrounding nature. Some of the facilities at the Enagron include a very comfortable sitting room, a traditional café on the first floor, where you can sit back and relax while playing some board games, a conference room, a small grocer's shop, a playground, and plenty of outdoor spaces where you can enjoy the nature.

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

The restaurant employs locals from the village and the region and tries to use as many organically grown products as possible. More than 40 aromatic and endemic plants among the 1,000 present in Crete grow on the grounds of the Enagron, where you can take part in a discovery walk of the local flora. The chefs at the restaurant try to first and foremost use the products produced and grown on the farm, which include olive trees, grapes, various fruit trees, vegetables, aromatic plants, etc. Thanks to the animals bred on the farm, the milk, eggs and meat here are of a very high quality.

    To know

Tourists can participate in the activities on the farm, like making of bread or raki, or take part in the grape harvest. The must of the grapes is blended with flour to create a traditional sort of sweet and syrupy wine. This drink is full of vitamins. 100 litres of grape must are needed to make 5 to 7 litres.
