Although the outside of the Ashling Hotel is nothing much to look at, the interior design is interesting, particularly in the lobby and in the new building. Indeed, the hotel, which opened 12 years ago, added a second building in 2009 and is where you will find the newest and most well-designed guest rooms. There are no relaxation facilities at the hotel, but guests staying here on business will be pleased to hear that there are numerous conference rooms!

    Location 6.0 /10

Located in the east of the city, a stone's throw from the River Liffey, the Ashling has the advantage of having a tram stop nearby. The tram will take you to the city centre in just a few minutes. If you prefer to walk, it should take about a good fifteen minutes.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

With its 225 guest rooms, the Ashling has plenty of accommodation. Guest can choose from the Classic rooms in the old building or the Superior (and Superior Deluxe) rooms in the newer building. Naturally we recommend the latter, if your budget allows for it. While we were somewhat disappointed with the slightly old-fashioned decor in the well-named 'Classic' rooms, this certainly wasn't the case for the Superior rooms, which have a very modern look with their dark furniture and fabrics. The same goes for the bathrooms: basic in the Classic guest rooms and modern in the Superior rooms. In terms of amenities, you'll find everything you would expect from a 4-star hotel, except a minibar. Instead, you will have a trouser rail, tea and coffee-making facilities and all the ironing essentials. Note that 40 of the guest rooms offer a view of the river.

    Overview 7.70 /10

Don't be put off by the Ashling's unattractive faade: the interior has much more to offer, not in terms of relaxation facilities, unfortunately (at least a gym would have been nice), but rather in terms of decoration. The hotel lobby is sombre by elegant: a glittery floor, a flowery rug, lounge areas... It all makes for a well-thought out style that continues in the bar, open 9:00am to 9:45pm, and the restaurant. Unfortunately, that's the extent of the communal areas, as it was decided that meeting rooms (ten in total) were more useful than a well-being centre.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

Like most of the hotels in Dublin, the Ashling has its own restaurant. Open from 6:45am to 10:30am, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, the restaurant serves European dishes in the elegant and modern setting of the large dining hall, which can seat up to 180. An la carte menu is proposed in the evening, while lunch and breakfast are served as a buffet ! For a light snack, head to the bar. Here you can enjoy soups, sandwiches, paninis and even more elaborate dishes throughout the day. Expect to pay about ?6 (5) for a snack. Guests can also opt for the bed and breakfast or half-board options.

    To know

The Ashling thinks big: there are no fewer than 10 meeting rooms and 10 guest rooms adapted for disabled guests, out of the hotel's total 225 guest rooms.
Note that parking is charged at ?8 per night (7), but the Wi-Fi Internet access if free throughout the hotel.

At the top of O'Connell Street, Cassidys occupies three Georgian houses and numerous extensions. Despite being well located, simple and functional, Cassidys is a real maze to get around, lacks style and offers very few services.

A former residence of the Saint George family, this eponymous hotel is little more than a perfectly decent guesthouse offering small, but clean and functional guest rooms. It is housed in a beautiful Georgian building, which also houses a Mauritian restaurant, and inside, you can really appreciate the mouldings, high ceilings and staircases which characterise the Georgian style.

The Castle is the oldest hotel in the capital and is far more spacious than it seems from the outside. Its architecture is Georgian and some elements of the same style have since been added. In short, it is a pleasant and simple hotel.

All of this makes for a very popular establishment.

This little hotel occupies a nice Georgian residence and belongs to the Manor House group. Ideally situated, it enjoys a central location but in quiet surroundings! The common areas are full of charm and in some cases boast a lovely Georgian style. Obviously, one would expect to find the same elegance in the rooms, but unfortunately this is not the case.

This large Palladian house, Irish in style, blends old and modern features perfectly. The original building was actually the Duke of Leinster's summer residence, but now houses 18 magnificent suites.

Tucked away in a posh residential area in the south of Dublin, the Four Seasons lives up to the group's famous reputation for luxury. While there is not much to do in the surrounding area, the hotel itself has plenty to fill both guests' days and evenings, whether it be in the restaurant, one of the three bars, or the superb spa and swimming pool. Unless you're in Dublin on business, in which case note that the hotel has no fewer than six meeting rooms.

A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, The Morrison was not built in honour of the famous rock singer Jim Morrison, but it does pay tribute to Irish musicians, bands and artists. Reopened in February 2013 after 10 weeks of refurbishment, The Morrison now boasts a designer interior - a rare choice of decor in this city where most hotels are decorated in a more classic style. Add to this the delicious restaurant and the art gallery, and The Morrison is unquestionably a safe bet in Dublin.

The beautiful 5-star Dylan Hotel was not built in honour of the famous rock star. No, the Dylan simply chose to take up residence in the street of the same name. Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007. Far from being a chain hotel, the Dylan has a bar, restaurant and lounge, but unfortunately no well-being centre.

The Clarion, opened in 2001, is a pleasant modern hotel without much character. It is ideal for fans of hotel chains or, more generally, those looking for a good well-being centre! Apart from the massage rooms, sauna and hammam, the hotel also has a lovely large swimming pool, which is quite rare for the Irish capital. Neither too big nor too small, the Clarion Hotel enjoys a privileged location at the heart of the city centre, on the banks of the River Liffey.
