The Conrad is a contemporary hotel just across the street from Dublin's National Concert Hall. It is ideal for its business clientele but will also please tourists with its quality service and because it is generally spacious and comfortable. A particular emphasis is paid to service, which is much appreciated.

    Location 6.6 /10

In Dublin city centre, near St Stephen's Green, the National Gallery and opposite the Concert Hall. The shopping district is a two minute walk away. Allow half an hour for transfers to the capital city's international airport!

    Accommodation 8.45 /10

The 191 bright bedrooms are decorated with light, natural colours and contemporary paintings. You can choose between six types of rooms: 'Classic king' (Dublin city centre's largest at 366 sq ft) ; 'Classic twin' ; 'Business' (409 sq ft) ; 'Junior suite' (538 sq ft) ; 'Executive leisure suite' (807 sq ft); 'Executive business suite', and the presidential suite. A third of them have a view of the National Concert Hall. The double-glazing (specially on the bow windows) proves effective against the street noise. The furnishings are clearly comfortable, starting with the beds, all of which are king size. Facilities include a large television set (27 channels), a safe, a well-stocked minibar, a telephone, a midi-system, tea and coffee-making facilities (on request), a radio alarm, individual air-conditioning (plus heating), various plug sockets, an iron and ironing board. A pillow menu is also available upon request. In the spacious all-marble bathrooms you will find a bathtub, bathrobes, a magnifying mirror, a large mirror, scales, a hair dryer and hospitality products. 24 hour room service and a butler service are available.

    Overview 8.20 /10

Built in 1989 and renovated in 2006, the Conrad is spread over at least eight floors, each as spacious as the last. The vast, well-lit reception hall is set on two levels. It is an open plan area with various sections stretching all the way to the main restaurant, with many bay windows to allow plenty of light in. Street noise can be heard here. The hotel's large bar stands between the lobby and the restaurant. A musician plays its black baby grand piano from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. The colours of the decor are soft and the lighting is gentle and carefully designed. Lifts lead up to the various floors. The brightly-lit gym is quite large, with 12 machines, including 7 made by 'Technogym'. The business centre is open 24 hours a day, and there is also a concierge service. A small club for children (with television, teddy bears, games, Nintendo DS) is set up in the conference centre at the week-end.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

There are two restaurants. The Alex has very graphic decor and serves a type of cuisine essentially focused on Mediterranean and seafood dishes. It is located at the end of the reception hall where it morphs into a comfortable and contemporary area. Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:30am (11:00am at the week-end), lunch from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and dinner from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. A long buffet table is set opposite some long high-backed benches. The chef is Russian and the pastry chef is Irish - he prepares innovative sweet treats such as Toblerone cheesecake, which is not to be missed. Bread is also baked at the hotel. On the menu are salads, burgers, antipasti, paninis, sandwiches, three fish dishes, and one poultry dish. Next to the restaurant, the bar prepares afternoon tea with a wide selection of beverages from Ronnefeldt, which was established in Frankfurt in 1823. Also on the menu are champagne cocktails, a good selection of whiskeys, cocktails, etc.
Downstairs, you will find a large Irish pub. For lunch, guests can choose between several light meals, plus one Irish speciality. There is a choice, but not a wide one. Smokers can sit outside on a small terrace and a order a drink. The central bar is huge, and provided with screens for everyone to watch important matches.

This little hotel occupies a nice Georgian residence and belongs to the Manor House group. Ideally situated, it enjoys a central location but in quiet surroundings! The common areas are full of charm and in some cases boast a lovely Georgian style. Obviously, one would expect to find the same elegance in the rooms, but unfortunately this is not the case.

The Davenport hotel is housed in a former church which dates back to 1863 and enjoys a central location not far from Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green park. Needless to say, its façade is unique, and the fine interior decor is impeccable as the hotel was renovated at the end of 2008. Basically, this is a good place to stay for those who like to keep it simple!

This large, handsome and classic hotel is partly housed in the building of a former bank opposite Trinity College. Some wonderful traces of its past are still present in parts of the hotel, like the great hall where events are organised and the bar in the former strongroom, where guests can sip on award-winning cocktails. The delicious afternoon tea is another unmissable aspect of any stay in this highly comfortable establishment.

The Trinity Capital, bang in the city centre and opposite Trinity College, has a few surprises hidden up its sleeve. You can forget about any ideas of elegance and refined style; here, the decor is exuberant, elaborate, out of the ordinary, and full of contrasts. Although the communal spaces are full of curiosities, the rooms are quite the opposite!
