95-98 Talbot Street Dublin 1 Dublin, Ireland
Amy Adejokun Section editor

The Days Inn Talbot is next to O'Connell Street. It lacks charm, but is well-kept and very functional. You couldn't be better located for a look around the city's must-see sites: it is the perfect base for a no-frills break.

    Location 9.28 /10

The Days Inn Talbot is located in a pedestrian street perpendicular to O'Connell Street. The River Liffey, Temple Bar, the O2 Arena and the shopping districts are just a few minutes walk away. Dublin international airport is 8 mi away.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

The 60 small rooms are simple, clean and functional. They are more or less identical, except in size. Also, the top floor has sloping ceilings under the roof. The two single rooms are especially small. There are also 25 double rooms and 25 twin rooms (twin beds). The rest of the rooms are for 3 or 4 guests. As in the corridors, every room has a pleasant painting of a setting sun. However, the view over the rooftops is unremarkable, and the small wall lights fitted at the head of the beds are pretty pointless. As far as facilities are concerned, there is a television with ten or so channels, as well as a telephone, a radio alarm clock, an electronic safe, double glazing (in the small windows) and tea and coffee-making facilities. The beds are rather soft, but there is a bit of space for storage. Six of the rooms have a bathtub; the others have a shower. In addition, there are soap dispensers and a hair-dryer.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The Days Inn Talbot was renovated in 2007 after taking the place of an old Comfort Inn in 2004. It occupies a 5-storey building dating back to the 1960's and the inside has been completely refurbished. From the outside, you can only really see the entrance door and a long corridor, because shops take up the space inside the building at street level. After a few steps, guests reach a small, bare reception area. The only furnishing is a tall L-shaped counter for checking in and out. Although it only offers a minimal level of comfort, it is open 24 hours a day. The lift opposite the reception takes you up to the rooms themselves. The first floor is divided between a restaurant, a small lounge with a comfy red sofa to watch the large plasma-screen television, and a small terrace with two aluminium tables. There are also drinks machines. Unfortunately there is no escaping the noise from the fan shafts.

    Food and drink 6.45 /10

The hotel's single restaurant is a stylish affair. It only opens for breakfast, from 8:00am to 10:00am during the week and from 8:30am to 10:30am on the weekend. The bay windows, parquet flooring and wooden tables and chairs embellish the simple, immaculate room. The buffet stretches along the wall on one side of the room and includes a few hot dishes, 4 types of cereal and sachets of jam. An Irish breakfast will set you back ?11, while the continental breakfast is ?9.

Propreté des chambres très bonne et agréables (décoration simple mais soignée). Qualité de matelas bonne. The Best Western Academy Plaza is a safe bet in a good location to visit the town and have a good night's sleep. Although its style is resolutely modern, with facilities to match, there is unfortunately hardly any natural light in the various spaces, which are consequently rather yellowish.

The Ripley Court is not a particularly notable hotel, except for the fact that it is set back from O'Connell street and therefore ideally located to go and see matches at Croke Park or a concert at the O2 Arena. Moreover, its practical guest rooms are not too small and safety is one of the hotel's main assets!

This large, handsome and classic hotel is partly housed in the building of a former bank opposite Trinity College. Some wonderful traces of its past are still present in parts of the hotel, like the great hall where events are organised and the bar in the former strongroom, where guests can sip on award-winning cocktails. The delicious afternoon tea is another unmissable aspect of any stay in this highly comfortable establishment.

Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007.
