The beautiful 5-star Dylan Hotel was not built in honour of the famous rock star. No, the Dylan simply chose to take up residence in the street of the same name. Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007. Far from being a chain hotel, the Dylan has a bar, restaurant and lounge, but unfortunately no well-being centre.

    Location 5.58 /10

Located in a residential area in the south-east of the city, the Dylan Hotel is just a half-hour walk from Dublin's city centre. It's great if you want some peace and quiet, but a little limiting if you're looking for a more festive holiday.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

The 44 guest rooms in the hotel are divided into Luxury rooms, Style rooms, Experience suites and a Signature suite. Here, the Dylan has opted for simplicity, although you can still see the hotel's touch in the most understated elements of the decor, such as the lights, the bed head and the telephone. The bathrooms have an even more understated look. The amenities come close to perfection: a flat-screen television, individual air-conditioning, a safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, a wardrobe with a mirror, an iPod with a docking station, a minibar, etc. Everything is a reminder that you are in a 5-star hotel. The only downside is that the double wash basin and slippers are reserved for guests in the superior room categories only.

    Overview 7.70 /10

Very few would predict what wonders lay hidden behind the impressive façade of this former hospital. It's not only the building itself that stands out but the interior as well. Just not in the same style! Guests enter into a small lobby full of unusual furniture, such as the reception counter and the chair, which looked like something designed by Jean-Paul Gauthier. The lobby also has a waiting area in the form of a large, comfortable grey bench. The rest of the communal areas: the bar, restaurant, terrace and lounge-library, also feature original furniture and a detailed decor. It is a shame, though, that the hotel does not have a well-being centre. Those that like their workout, though, can always make do with the nearby gym.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

In addition to the restaurant, you can also eat at the bar, which serves a variety of dishes every day from midday to 11:00pm: a seafood platter (£19), salads, burgers (from £11), pasta (from £12), sandwiches, etc. The 'real' restaurant, closed on Mondays, has a set lunchtime menu (£16 for two courses) and serves à la carte dishes in the evening from £15. Note that guests can also take advantage of the 'early bird' menu before heading to the theatre: £18 for two courses. While we love the decor encompassing the padded walls, we love the terrace even more. Situated along a quiet street, it's great for enjoying those sunny days in Dublin.

    To know

Charged at ?20 (£17) per night, parking in the private car park is included in some packages. The Wi-Fi connection is free throughout the hotel, and there is also a laptop at guests' disposal in the lobby.

The Davenport hotel is housed in a former church which dates back to 1863 and enjoys a central location not far from Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green park. Needless to say, its façade is unique, and the fine interior decor is impeccable as the hotel was renovated at the end of 2008. Basically, this is a good place to stay for those who like to keep it simple!
