Lynam's, on O'Connell Street, could be a charming little hotel, but it turns out to be quite the opposite, displaying a poor level of maintenance and awful service. Its only strong point is its location on Dublin's 'Bond Street'.

    Location 9.48 /10

Lynam's is located on O'Connell Street, the Bond Street of Dublin, near to the large General Post Office building and a few minutes from Dublin's River Liffey, Temple Bar, the O2 Arena and various shopping districts. Dublin international airport is 8 mi away.

    Accommodation 4.45 /10

The hotel houses 42 rooms, comprised of 5 single rooms, 15 double rooms, 13 twin rooms (twin beds) and 8 triple rooms, ranging in size from just 108 sq ft to 140 sq ft. The windows are in a pitiful condition, and as there is no double-glazing you will have to choose between the incessant traffic noise of the very busy O'Connell Street and the din from the fan shafts on the side overlooking the courtyard. Maintenance, sound-proofing and decor have been completely neglected here! The old furnishings consist of a rather hard bed with an old-fashioned bed spread, a comfortable chair flecked with many stains, a tiny television, tea and coffee-making facilities, a telephone, a single pale wood wardrobe to store your luggage, and an electronic safe. The many sources of light are a nice touch though. With barely enough room to brandish a toothbrush, the (clean) bathrooms are provided with a shower and a hair-dryer. Trying to fit two people inside is out of the question!

    Overview 4.95 /10

Lynam's opened in 2000 and it is a small 4-floor hotel, taller than it is wide, tucked in between two buildings on O'Connell Street. Even though the hotel is housed in two Georgian listed buildings, its façade is nothing special, especially given the banner announcing the latest hot deal plastered over its entire length! The hotel's original architecture can, nevertheless, still be seen in the few remaining mouldings and straight staircases. The tiny reception counter on the ground floor is in a room barely bigger than the counter itself. The hotel's first-floor lounge also houses the bar, which no longer appears to be operating. The tables are cramped together, there are hardly any bottles on display, the windows overlooking O'Connell Street do not have double glazing, and there is a little lift bang in the middle of the room. The place doesn't seem to have anythig going for it! For one thing, you need to order your drink down in the restaurant and then go back upstairs with it. There are no other communal spaces apart from that!

    Food and drink 5.20 /10

Irish (?8) and continental (?4) breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10:00am (till 12:00pm on Sunday) in the hotel's single restaurant on the ground floor. It converts into an Italian restaurant for lunch and dinner and is open to the general public as well as guests staying at the hotel. It stays open until 10:00pm. Tables and chairs are packed into this long, slanting room and the decor has clearly enjoyed minimal investment. The lunch and dinner menus are different, and the prices reasonable. A variety of pastas and pizzas are served here, but there is no choice when it comes to dessert. The restaurant toilets are clearly not very well looked after.

    To know

There is a free WiFi connection in the communal areas and rooms. The hotel's only lift does not reach the top of the building, and no one will help you carry your suitcases up!

Lynam's is located in the house where William Tilly, inventor of the Tilly lamp, once lived.

The Best Western Academy Plaza is a safe bet in a good location to visit the town and have a good night's sleep. Although its style is resolutely modern, with facilities to match, there is unfortunately hardly any natural light in the various spaces, which are consequently rather yellowish.

It is housed in a beautiful Georgian building, which also houses a Mauritian restaurant, and inside, you can really appreciate the mouldings, high ceilings and staircases which characterise the Georgian style.

The beautiful 5-star Dylan Hotel was not built in honour of the famous rock star. No, the Dylan simply chose to take up residence in the street of the same name. Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007. Far from being a chain hotel, the Dylan has a bar, restaurant and lounge, but unfortunately no well-being centre.

The Clarion, opened in 2001, is a pleasant modern hotel without much character. It is ideal for fans of hotel chains or, more generally, those looking for a good well-being centre! Apart from the massage rooms, sauna and hammam, the hotel also has a lovely large swimming pool, which is quite rare for the Irish capital. Neither too big nor too small, the Clarion Hotel enjoys a privileged location at the heart of the city centre, on the banks of the River Liffey.
