The Davenport hotel is housed in a former church which dates back to 1863 and enjoys a central location not far from Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green park. Needless to say, its façade is unique, and the fine interior decor is impeccable as the hotel was renovated at the end of 2008. Basically, this is a good place to stay for those who like to keep it simple!

    Location 7.22 /10

The hotel is located in Dublin 2, opposite the Mont-Clare hotel, which is another of the four hotels in the capital that belong to this group. Oscar Wilde's house, the National Museum of Ireland, Trinity College and Government House are all just a stone's throw away in this upmarket district which is very popular with tourists. Dublin International Airport is just 30 minutes away by Aircoach (the bus which runs between Dublin and the airport) and tickets for the transfer cost ?8.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

All of the hotel's 114 guest rooms are immaculate after having been renovated in November 2008. Some of them overlook the courtyard, which is not a very interesting view, but the best views are to be had from those overlooking the street outside. In addition to the double, twin and king-size rooms, there are also 18 triple rooms, 10 junior suites and 2 suites. The well-equipped rooms are of a decent size and very comfortable, with light brown carpets, velvet armchairs, cream-coloured walls, curtains, mirrors and plenty of storage, whilst amenities include a plasma-screen television complete with a keyboard, tea and coffee-making facilities, a safe, a telephone and central air-conditioning. The tiled and cream-coloured corner bathrooms are perfectly clean and include a bathtub, a rectangular washbasin, an illuminated make-up mirror, a hair-dryer and basic hospitality products (a wider range is available on request). The two large warm and welcoming suites have a lounge area, a separate bedroom, a bathroom and a separate toilet. Room service is available 24-hours a day.

    Overview 7.95 /10

The Davenport hotel is housed in a Neo-Classical building adorned with four imposing Corinthian columns which support a superb pediment. The hotel was done up in a former Anglican church in 1984 and opened in 1989, before being renovated in November 2008. Of its initial structure, only the wonderful façade, which is actually listed, and the entrance to the hotel still remain and, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the only downside to the place is the two lifts located in the entrance hall. This aside, you can't fail to be impressed by the split level of the cream stone church visible from the entrance hall, bathed in natural light, with the boundary between the two highlighted by beautiful decorative elements. Beyond this, you will find yourself at the entrance to the long, all-wood lobby, which appears spacious from the outset as it extends into the hotel's bar area at the far end and leads onto the most tranquil of courtyards. The place is stylish, with big red and blue velvet armchairs, heavy drapes, wood panelling and a wooden reception desk at the end of the room. The hotel also boasts a fitness centre complete with 6 'Technogym' machines, though the gym itself has no windows.

    Food and drink 7.45 /10

Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 10:15 am during the week and from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on the weekend, in a large, traditional room where you will feel right at home, with carpeted floors, comfortable velvet chairs, a mirror and, of course, tables. The view gives on to an old and well-known Dublin pub, the Ginger Man Pub. Between the hours of 11:00 am and 10:30 pm you can also grab a bite to eat at the Presidents' Bar, which takes its name from the many photographs of American and Irish presidents, among others, that adorn the walls, where a variety of sandwiches and main courses are available. The evening menu is served from 5:00 pm onwards, with main courses costing between ?11 and ?20. A choice of two house wines can be ordered by the glass, or you may like to take a look at the selection of red and white wines, and champagnes available.

The Conrad is a contemporary hotel just across the street from Dublin's National Concert Hall. It is ideal for its business clientele but will also please tourists with its quality service and because it is generally spacious and comfortable. A particular emphasis is paid to service, which is much appreciated.

The Ripley Court is not a particularly notable hotel, except for the fact that it is set back from O'Connell street and therefore ideally located to go and see matches at Croke Park or a concert at the O2 Arena. Moreover, its practical guest rooms are not too small and safety is one of the hotel's main assets!

This large, handsome and classic hotel is partly housed in the building of a former bank opposite Trinity College. Some wonderful traces of its past are still present in parts of the hotel, like the great hall where events are organised and the bar in the former strongroom, where guests can sip on award-winning cocktails. The delicious afternoon tea is another unmissable aspect of any stay in this highly comfortable establishment.

Although the communal spaces are full of curiosities, the rooms are quite the opposite!

It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007.
