On the banks of the River Liffey, The Clarence is a small 4-star hotel that is both charming and unpretentious. It is located in a 19th century building previously owned by the government. In addition to the fifty or so guest rooms, the hotel also has a gym, a bar and a restaurant. For the rest, head to the city centre with its many attractions.

    Location 9.12 /10

The city centre location in the famous and festive Temple Bar area on the banks of the River Liffey is without a doubt one of the main highlights of The Clarence Hotel, even if the noise might disturb some people. Just one bridge and five minutes later and you find yourself in the famous shopping area that is O'Connell Street.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

Despite the building's large size, The Clarence 'only' has 50 guest rooms: 20 standard rooms, 11 deluxe, 7 rooms with a balcony, 6 rooms and 3 suites with a view of the river, 1 'garden terrace' suite, and a penthouse. However, the guest rooms are no bigger for it. Here, wood reigns supreme in the bedrooms (furniture, wood floor) and the bathrooms (bathtub, furniture, shelf, etc.). Even though the accommodation is fitted with double glazing, the weekend entertainment can still be a nuisance, especially for those who don't like noise. This is due to the hotel's location in the festive Temple Bar area. Nothing to complain about in terms of amenities, other than the small television. Also note that the minibar is on request.

    Overview 8.20 /10

Wood is king at The Clarence, to say the least. It features both outside, on the entrance door and the window ledges, and inside on the reception counter. The lobby looks more like the entrance hall of an apartment building rather than a hotel, but this is understandable considering how old the building is. While there are no seats here, to the left you will find a lovely lounge with a bar, tables, panelling and a fireplace where you can wait patiently. To the right is the large restaurant dining room with its high panelled ceiling that is open to both guests and the general public. In terms of relaxation facilities, the gym, as small as it is, and the massage room are a nice touch.

    Food and drink 7.45 /10

The huge bright dining room is open from 7:00am to 11:00am, from midday to 5:00pm, and from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. There are two set menus available during the day. The lunch menu has a choice of 4 starters and 4 main courses, and costs around ?19 (16) for two courses, and ?23 (20) for three. In the evening, the menu has double the choice (8 starters and 9 main courses) but the prices stay the same. The cuisine is a blend of international and local dishes, such as soups, smoked salmon, gnocchi, fish and chips and chicken meat loaf. Wood is omnipresent here as well and the benches are covered in blue, green and burgundy fabrics. Note that group breakfasts (?9.95/8.50 per person) can be arranged on request.

    To know

As in many Dublin hotels, the Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. However, the car park is charged at ?25 (21) per night.

Add to this the delicious restaurant and the art gallery, and The Morrison is unquestionably a safe bet in Dublin.

The beautiful 5-star Dylan Hotel was not built in honour of the famous rock star. No, the Dylan simply chose to take up residence in the street of the same name. Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007. Far from being a chain hotel, the Dylan has a bar, restaurant and lounge, but unfortunately no well-being centre.

The Clarion, opened in 2001, is a pleasant modern hotel without much character. It is ideal for fans of hotel chains or, more generally, those looking for a good well-being centre! Apart from the massage rooms, sauna and hammam, the hotel also has a lovely large swimming pool, which is quite rare for the Irish capital. Neither too big nor too small, the Clarion Hotel enjoys a privileged location at the heart of the city centre, on the banks of the River Liffey.
