Amy Adejokun Section editor

A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, The Morrison was not built in honour of the famous rock singer Jim Morrison, but it does pay tribute to Irish musicians, bands and artists. Reopened in February 2013 after 10 weeks of refurbishment, The Morrison now boasts a designer interior - a rare choice of decor in this city where most hotels are decorated in a more classic style. Add to this the delicious restaurant and the art gallery, and The Morrison is unquestionably a safe bet in Dublin.

    Location 8.64 /10

The Morrison Hotel enjoys a central location on the river banks, just a ten-minutes walk from O'Connell Street, the central shopping area.

    Accommodation 8.90 /10

One thing is for sure, The Morrison certainly offers choice, as much in room category (everything from rooms to suits) as in decoration. The hotel has two types of decor: one a modern style that mirrors the rest of the hotel, and the other a Georgian style. In fact, the hotel is composed of two buildings, one of which is Georgian and home to the eight suites in the style. No complaints in terms of amenities; all the rooms have the essentials and more! In addition to the tea and coffee-making facilities, the minibar and the plasma television, guests can also take advantage of the ironing board! The more basic bathrooms are equipped with a shower or bath tub and complimentary toiletries.

    Overview 8.80 /10

There are two entrances to The Morrison's modern lair: via the quay, passing through the bar-restaurant, or more discreetly via the elegant designer lobby. White reigns supreme here, with pink and grey furniture that add a touch of colour to brighten up the entrance without detracting from its designer-feel. It's the hotel walls, however, that create a running theme; The Morrison came up with the idea of writing the song lyrics of Irish singers on the walls. The melody starts in the lobby, continues into the two lifts, and even appears on the walls of the guest rooms. The communal areas include a fitness centre, a television room, a terrace and a Courtyard Garden. Don't bother looking for a spa, though, as The Morrison doesn't have one.

    Food and drink 8.50 /10

The bar-restaurant is undeniably one of The Morrison's main assets, partly thanks to its elegant designer decor that echoes the rest of the hotel, and partly thanks to its dishes! As well as the classics (like the Caesar salad), the restaurant offers an array of meats roasted in its special 500C oven! It goes without saying that you have to be really hungry to clear everything on the plate! Note that on Fridays and Saturdays the restaurant transforms into a lounge. Breakfast is served in a different room, also used for group meals. The extensive buffet, which includes fresh fruit as well as typical Irish hot options, is irreproachable.

    To know

Managed by Martinez Hotels & Resorts, The Morrison only closed for 10 weeks to carry out its complete refurbishment. As well as guests rooms, the hotel also has 5 conference rooms, an art gallery and a soon-to-be-opened nightclub. On top of that, the Wi-Fi connection is free throughout the hotel.

The beautiful 5-star Dylan Hotel was not built in honour of the famous rock star. No, the Dylan simply chose to take up residence in the street of the same name. Now a small hotel with 44 guest rooms, the Dylan was first a hospital, then a hotel, before becoming the Dylan Hotel. It has been welcoming guests into its entirely unique, modern and elegant interior since 2007. Far from being a chain hotel, the Dylan has a bar, restaurant and lounge, but unfortunately no well-being centre.

The Radisson Blu Royal Hotel opened its doors in the Irish capital in 2007, a stone's throw from Dublin Castle and the shopping haven, Grafton Street. With its architecture and contemporary decor, however, this 4-star luxury hotel looks like it was opened just this year. Although the Radisson is designed for both business travellers and tourists, there do seem to be more businessmen. Indeed, the hotel has 17 meeting rooms but no relaxation facilities.
