1 Faro hotels

In the extreme south of Portugal, the hotels in Faro line the Atlantic coast, hide within the narrow streets of the old town with their whitewashed façades and are set against an authentically Portuguese hinterland. Faro is the main tourist town in the coastal Algarve region which has developed strongly over the years since the construction of an international airport in 1965. The hotels which run along the 100 miles or so of the Atlantic coast are particularly popular with families. Towards Albufeira, the busiest of the resorts, holiday villages and resort hotels fill the sea front. The town of Faro is, compared to its neighbours, less built up and boasts a series of lagoons and islands which means finding a hotel here is pretty difficult given the setting. There are a few establishments which offer pleasant alternatives, for example by having marina views or views on the Ria Formosa lagoon. Spread over 18,400 hectares, this natural park is home to pink flamingoes and other birds, endemic plants and salt marshes. In order to discover these marvels up close, think about taking a boat tour.
