Flamingo, Costa Rica -

This is the only waterside hotel in the Flamingo seaside resort, and offers either all-inclusive or just bed-and-breakfast packages. Its major asset is without doubt the superb beach of fine sand, where the only sound is made by the waves.

The Flamingo Beach is located in the small seaside resort of Flamingo. Tamarindo is 9 mi away, and Santa Cruz 27 mi to the south. It takes about 45 minutes by car to reach Liberia international airport.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

The two-storey buildings hold 120 rooms, all with a balcony. There are 88 standard rooms, 20 studios for families, 8 suites, 2 rooms for honeymoon couples, and one presidential suite. Only the 8 suites have a sea view. Inside, holidaymakers have satellite television, a mini-bar with tea/coffee equipment, a telephone, wireless internet, individual air conditioning, a radio alarm clock, and a safe. In the studios, there is also a lounge area and a fully-equipped kitchenette.

    Overview 7.45 /10

On the shores of the Pacific Ocean, pretty little boats are anchored in one of the bays of the small, peaceful village of Flamingo. The beaches here are so beautiful, a number of holiday homes have been built by the rich and famous from around the world. This is the setting of the Flamingo Beach, a small hotel that is secluded in spite of its location in the village. The hotel opened in 1983 and was renovated in 2007, and is a simple, square, symmetrical building on the sea front. Once you are through reception, the blue sea can be seen a few feet away. Between the two, and in line with the reception, an external stairway leads down to a large swimming pool with a section for children. It is surrounded by wooden deck chairs, and four enormous sunshades shaped like palm trees. Then there is the lawn, and the restaurant space to one side. Small walls mark the edge of the property. Do not forget the second little swimming pool that is dedicated to activities and, inside, the casino that opens from 8.00 pm to 3.00 am.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

The single restaurant at the Flamingo Beach only serves buffet meals (international cuisine), apart from in the low season when the few holidaymakers are served " la carte". Sitting in the open air on the ground floor or first floor, guests can enjoy the view over the swimming pool with the turquoise sea on the other side. The decoration is subdued and pleasant. There are four themed evenings each week: Italian, Costa Rican, Caribbean, and Mexican. Breakfast is served from 6.30 am to 10.00 am, lunch from 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm, and dinner from 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm. Outside these times, you can always go for a snack in one of the three bars.

    Beach 8.45 /10

Cross the quiet little road bordered by high palm trees to reach the superb public beach opposite the hotel. Only the Flamingo's guests really use it, as there are no other hotels nearby. Protected on each side by tall hills, the wide bay is carpeted by fine white sand, with not a rock in sight. The beach is over a mile long. There are no deck chairs or sunshades opposite the hotel. A few water sports are offered by a private club.
