The guest rooms, with linoleum flooring and white walls decorated with paintings, measure approximately 21m². They include a small lounge area with a coffee table, a sofa bed (that can sleep one person) and a flat-screen satellite television. Not to mention a large bench where guests will have plenty of space to place their luggage, which is a welcome change from the usual luggage stands that can barely hold a backpack. Finally, you'll also find a digital code safe (for an extra fee), air-conditioning doubling as a ceiling fan, a fridge, a telephone, an Internet connection (for an extra fee), and a small balcony furnished with a table, three chairs and a clothes line. Some of the balconies afford a view of the sea but these come at an extra charge. The junior suites, measuring 37m², have tiled floors. The bathroom includes a bathtub fitted with a large flexible showerhead, a toilet, a make-up mirror, hospitality products and a hair-dryer.

At the outset, in the 1960's, the Beach Font de Sa Cala was just a small campsite, which is such a long way from the large resort it has become! In addition to three swimming pools, a kids club and many sports facilities, it now has 350 guest rooms evenly divided among seven 3-storey buildings. It doesn't stop there, though: the establishment is constantly expanding, with the latest renovation dating from 2010. It must be said that it's definitely not space that's lacking here, given that the grounds cover 60,000m²! Though this does mean that the distances between the different parts of the hotel can sometimes be far, but fortunately there are some electric golf carts available to take guests to their room. The circular reception desk standing in the middle of the lobby is rather original. In addition to some luggage scales, you'll also find the usual lobby bar, which has a terrace and a stage where the entertainment is held.
The main swimming pool (rectangular and 2m30 deep) is semi-Olympic sized and accessible for diasabled guests. Open from 8:30am to 9:00pm, this is the place to go for activities, music, aqua aerobics, water polo and water volleyball. A second, lagoon-shaped swimming pool featuring waterfalls, fountains and palm trees is set back in the midst of vegetation in a quieter area with no music and no activities. Deckchairs are scattered around the lawn, under the shade of parasols. Towels can be obtained at reception in exchange for a deposit of around £17 (and you have to pay cash). There are also showers all around the resort for guests to use. A wide range of drinks are served at the bar beside the pool from 10:30am to 6:30pm. Part of the main swimming pool is reserved for children only, but the hotel's younger guests usually prefer to go to the pirate-themed swimming pool, open from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
The Beach Font de Sa Cala could almost be a venue for the Olympic Games, what with its huge range of sport facilities: in addition to three swimming pools it also has a multi-sports pitch where guests can play football, handball and basketball, 11 clay tennis courts (for Wimbledon, maybe?), a basketball court, a beach volleyball court, five petanque pitches, table tennis tables, dartboards, archery, target shooting, a mini-golf course and a volleyball court!

Meals are served as a buffet in two large dining rooms located on the second floor of the main building (above the lobby) that can seat up to 800 people! We liked the fact that guests also have the option of eating out on the terrace (there is room to seat 130 guests) while admiring a view of the mountains. The cuisine is international with themed-evenings (Majorcan, gala, Mexican and Italian). Show cooking, an Italian chef who sees to the pasta and pizza, a wide range of fish and meat options, and omelettes and pancakes available in the morning: we really can't complain. Breakfast is served from 8:00am to 10:30am, lunch from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, and dinner from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. You can also enjoy snacks during the day, have a bite to eat at the cafeteria, or give the pizzeria beside the pool a try, open from 10:00am to 1:00am (note that since the pizzeria is open to the public, it is not included in the all-inclusive formula).

The Font De Sa Cala public beach is located just across the road from the hotel. This very pretty and quiet bay lined with turquoise water is surrounded by rocks and fragrant pines and features fine white sand. Lined up in neat rows, straw parasols and plastic deckchairs are available for guests to hire for approximately £8.50 per day. The showers, on the other hand, are free to use. You can also take part in a number of water sports activities here, such as pedalo boating, windsurfing and kayaking. Guests can even go on glass-bottomed boat excursions. Note that the beach is supervised by a lifeguard and a flag indicates the safety level for swimming. The beach is not very big so space can be an issue, especially during high season. There is a bar restaurant near the entrance to the beach. This area is slightly marred by the horrible building that is the Club Marmara Roc Carolina.

The Beach Club Font de Sa Cala is open from the end of March to the end of October. If you're wondering why some of the signs at the hotel are in French, this is because 55% of the hotel's guests in high season are French. You'll also notice that the televisions in the guest rooms have a number of French channels. Germans and Italians make up another large part of the clientele. The establishment offers the all inclusive, full-board and half-board options, so take your pick! If you are coming by car, you'll be happy to know you can use the hotel's car park for free. Also, if you've got your laptop or tablet with you, you can surf the Internet for free in the lobby thanks to the Wi-Fi connection.
Accommodation advice
Two of the resort's seven buildings don't have lifts, so we would advise that elderly and disabled guests avoid these. However, those who do stay in these buildings and brave the stairs will be rewarded for their efforts, as these are the only ones which afford a view of the sea.
