75 miles from Paris, at the heart of the Norman countryside and a 27-acre estate, the Forges Hotel offers a modern setting for a relaxing weekend but with the possibility to do plenty of activities. This former Club Med has been completely renovated and is now run by Serge Triango. It is presented as a "country home" where guests can practice a large number of sports and regular activities that are all included in the rate of the room (except, of course, the treatments and some of the more expensive activities, like jet-skiing). The 700m spa has a heated swimming pool, a solarium, a gym, and a wide selection of treatments you can choose from, including massages, hydrotherapy, and weight loss treatments given in the 20 available rooms. You will find a driving range, a playground for very young children, a mini-golf course and a lake with regular and pedalo boats in the beautiful tree-filled park, filled mostly with oak and conifer trees. There is a children's club for 4-12 year olds during the school holidays and at the weekends during the high season.

    Location 9.89 /10

Located at the heart of the Norman countryside in Froges-les-Eaux, 75 miles from Paris, the hotel is located in the middle of the Forges estate. It takes about 90 minutes to 2h to reach from Paris.

The hotel's 89 guest rooms are spread out over three storeys (from -1 to -3) and consist of three categories: Classic, Junior Suite and Superior Suite, the latter of which has two distinct spaces (there are just two rooms of this type with a third one reserved for Isidore Partouche). Ask for a room with a view of the park (half face the park, half face the casino) to benefit from a nice relaxing view and the natural lighting.
The junior suites, which are a little more spacious and also have a sofa-bed, can accommodate a couple with two children and an extra bed for an infant. As for the decor, the style is simple but functional. Every floor has a predominant colour, either blue, violet or red. The rooms have fitted carpeting. The patterns on the bed linen match the curtains which all feature the aforementioned dominant colour. Facing the bed you will find a desk, a small table and dark wooden chairs. There are also two wardrobes and a dresser to store your clothes. All of the bathrooms have a bathtub (apart from the 3 designed for guests with reduced mobility), a double wash basin and a separate toilet. The hospitality products are provided by the Azzaro brand. A hair-dryer and tissues are provided but no bathrobes, which are reserved for guests of the spa and have to be asked for on the -3 floor.

After some renovations, this former Club Med hotel reopened its doors as a Forges Hotel in 1997. Facing the casino of Forges-les-Eaux, guests enter floor 0 of this establishment and then the guest rooms are found on the three lower floors. Presented as a country home that still has some club features - a warm and inviting welcome, activities for children, etc.- this 4-storey building displaying modern architecture in the middle of splendid nature has everything families could want. Let's start with the covered swimming pool, jacuzzi and solarium. Open until 11:00pm, everyone will find something to make them happy here! This 700m well-being space also includes a spa with 20 treatment rooms and a gym (with a view over the swimming pool). Outside, the complex includes plenty of areas for both relaxing and keeping busy: a mini-golf course (with a few bridges and difficult passages), a driving range, and a playground with equipment adapted especially for young children (slides, swings, little houses, etc.).
Opened in May 2012, the Forges beach is a sandy area facing the lake where you can take advantage of all of the facilities that have been set up here by the hotel: a wooden pontoon where you fill find tables and chairs, pedalo boats and jet-skis, a trail along the shore ideal for mountain biking (which can be borrowed upon request at reception), and also just simple old benches to enjoy the surroundings. During the summer there is a children's club available for children 4 to 17! Some of the diverse activities they can participate in are magic lessons, cooking lessons, shows, ping pong and mini-golf tournaments, team sports on the football pitch, bicycle excursions and fishing. While the youngest guests have a room reserved especially for them with comic books, music and DVDs, teenagers have their own 'Studio', a loft-style space behind the casino with a pool table, table football and a computer. There is an infant corner on the -1 floor where parents can heat baby's bottles and change nappies. There is nothing in the way of a nursery but it is possible to hire a babysitter on request.

The hotel may be very family-oriented at the weekend but various seminars are held here during the week. The inviting library can be turned into an office or a workroom while the conference rooms can hold up to 300 people.

    Food and drink

All of the meals are served at the restaurant on the ground floor. Ask for a table next to the large bay windows to be in the middle of the lush decor! The buffets follow one after the other. Breakfast includes croissants and other pastries, various types of bread, juice, coffee and a few hot choices, including eggs (made in a variety of ways), crepes and French toast. For lunch and dinner there is a table reserved for starters (vegetables, salads, cooked meats), another one for hot dishes (where you can have your meat cooked the way you like), an area for different cheeses, and another one for desserts. Last but not least, the Sunday brunch features seafood. This very comprehensive meal includes oysters, crabs, shrimp, scampi, salmon and the catch (or delivery!) of the day depending on the season.

    To know

The hotel, which is part of the Forges estate, a property of the Partouche Group, is currently run by Serge Trigano.

Recently, from 16 to 19 July (2012), the Forges Hotel put on a whole series of activities to celebrate its 5th anniversary. On the programme: circus workshops, kite-making, cooking classes and fishing in the lake for the little ones, and regular and step aerobics classes, aquagym, and tennis and volleyball tournaments for everyone. There were even extra activity leaders for the occasion. Open-air evening cinemas, huge barbecues on Saturday evenings and concerts on Sunday afternoon will delight families wishing to combine leisure and pleasure.
