Our favourite hotel on the island is the Quinta Roja, a charming country hotel located in the pretty village of Garachico, in the north. The Quinta dates back to the 16th Century, but it was entirely renovated in 2001, when the hotel opened its doors. This type of hotel is perfectly suited to those who like to stay clear of areas overcrowded with tourists. The roads leading to this place are winding and rather hazardous, but they are worth it: this is the part of Tenerife which has been best preserved, spared from the aggressive urban development seen in San Juan or in Playas de las Américas.

    Location 4.11 /10

The Quinta Roja stands on Garachico's main square, just opposite the church. The historic aspect of this square is interesting and delightful for visitors. Garachico is a fishing village: the sea is very close, located only one street away from the seafront.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

The 20 guest rooms of the Quinta Roja are really charming. Each of them has an area ranging from 20 to 30 m˛, and they are equipped with the same amenities as in traditional hotels: a plasma-screen showing international channels, a hifi system for if you fancy playing some music, and a direct external telephone line. Moreover, these rooms are pleasantly bathed in natural daylight thanks to their large bay windows. The bathrooms are spacious and equipped with a hair-dryer, a hospitality kit and some bathrobes. The decor is simple, but high-quality. We recommend that you book a room with a view of the square: although a little noisier than the others, they will give you the opportunity to admire the most beautiful views of the village. Aficionados of historic buildings and authentic places will not be disappointed with this hotel.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The hotel has a large patio, where you will be able to sit and enjoy some shade, on very hot days. In one corner of the building you will see a tower as high as the roof, and if you climb up to the top, you will get an incredible view of the mountains, the sea and the roofs of Garachico. In order to make this area welcoming, a solarium was set up with deckchairs, a sheltered area and a jacuzzi. The view from this spot really is impressive and after a jacuzzi, if you are cold, you will be able to warm up in the sauna just beside it. A similarly charming breakfast room, entirely made out of wood, was added to this terrace. There is parquet on the floor and the furniture was brought in from old bars, giving it a really nice atmosphere. This room opens out to another terrace, which overlooks the village square, and, after breakfast time, it is turned into a bar, where you will be able to have a drink at any time of the day. Just next door is a small lounge furnished with comfortable sofas, offering a perfect place for some relaxation. You can also check your emails in this lounge thanks to the Internet connection.

    Food and drink

There is no restaurant, but the village is small. You will therefore have no trouble finding a pleasant spot for eating Canarian cuisine.

    To know

In order to make your holiday easier, the hotel has mountain bikes at the guests' disposal. You will be able to ride around in the surrounding areas or in the village.
