    Location 9.49 /10

The hotel is located to the south of Tenerife, by the sea and next to a protected natural reserve, half-way between the 'Urbanizacion Golf del Sur' hotel area and Los Abrigos fishing village (only 600 metres away), some 14 mi from the Playa de las Américas, and 4 mi from Medano, a windsurfing spot of international renown. The journey to and from the Tenerife Sur airport, located 3 miles away, will take 10 minutes. The hotel is around 40 mi from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

The guest rooms are truly superb! They're spacious (33 m²), clean, very nicely decorated, with good amenities and soundproofing. They feature individual air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, a large flat-screen TV that broadcasts 29 channels, a large safe with a digital code, which is free and spacious enough for a laptop, free Wi-Fi access, a phone, and a large terrace fitted with a table, two wicker chairs and a double deckchair with a mattress from which you can admire the sea or the mountains. The modern decor blends in nicely with the light sandy-coloured tiling, the wooden furniture (desk and luggage rack) and the elegant light stands (also made of wood) that resemble telescopes. There is a fridge (empty) and no mini-bar, but room service is available till 1:00am.
The marble bathroom is original and is separated from the main bedroom area by a sliding door made of glass and wood. It includes a whirlpool bath, a large separate tropical shower and another with a flexible shower head, a large mirror, a make-up mirror, tissues, hospitality products, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a shaving kit, a red, designer double wash basin, bathrobes and slippers, and a state-of-the-art hair-dryer. You'll find that there was actually no need to bring your own wash bag! The toilet is in a separate room, with a bidet and a phone.

    Overview 8.95 /10

The San Blas Reserva aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and is therefore designed to make tourists environmentally aware. This is why it was built right next to a protected nature reserve. This hotel complex, owned by the Spanish hotel group Sandos, is huge and is home to 8 swimming pools covering an area of 1 400 m² (two are reserved for children, two are paddling pools, two are heated, and two infinity pools that face the sea, one of which is 1.9 metres deep)!
The hotel opened in December 2008 and includes some 331 rooms spread throughout three ochre-coloured buildings each 5 storeys high. The decor and general layout have been cleverly executed, the patios here filled with flowers and the green spaces planted with palm trees and pools and cascades dotted here and there. You can catch a glimpse of the sea, from the cool and well-lit lobby, but for a better view and a nice cocktail, head for the bar's panoramic terrace, which opens from 10:00am to 11:00pm and puts on light musical entertainment.
The 8 swimming pools are open from 8:00am to 7:00pm, and boast a fantastic layout, surrounded by numerous deckchairs, parasols and showers, providing a very relaxing setting. Guests can be provided with towels here for free. In terms of activities, there is a beach-volley pitch, a climbing wall, a standard gym that is open 24/7 (your room's keycard will give you access), a spa centre, as well as pool, football and tennis tables, an archery range, and a multisports field where you can play football, handball and basketball.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

The establishment has two restaurants. The main buffet room can seat up to 400 guests and offers an international cuisine and a different theme evening every day. The various buffet tables are located under a dome, and the area opens onto 7 dining rooms, one of which is dedicated to children. Each dining room is named after a region of the Canary Islands. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10:30am, lunch from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, and dinner from 7:45pm to 09:30pm. Those with a fine palate might want to book a table at the La Prova, the à la carte restaurant that opens only in the evening. It faces the sea and serves Mediterranean and Mexican specialties, enjoyed in a room that can seat up to 170 guests.

    Beach 6.70 /10

The playa de San Blas is a tiny and wild, black pebble beach, that is unattended and quite dangerous, with strong currents and waves that break against the rocks. There is a red flag flying here every day. If you are, nevertheless, determined to take a dip, think about bringing along your sandals as it's rocky underfoot and be particularly careful, particularly with children. Your best bet really is to stick to the swimming pools: the complex has 8 of these, so you should be spoilt for choice! The keycard to your room also offers access to the beach, through a door that opens onto a seaside promenade. In terms of facilities, you'll only find some deckchairs.

    To know

The complex is home to a very interesting multimedia museum that retraces the geological history of Tenerife and Teide, and features an auditorium where conferences are held. For around £6, a guide will take you on a 2-hour excursion in the adjacent natural reserve. There are 2 free car parks, one of which is an indoor one. There are 3 conference rooms which can accommodate up to 450 people at a time. Moreover, open from 11:00am to 07:00pm, the Magek spa includes a sauna, a jacuzzi and three massage parlours, one of which is reserved for couples. In the evening, shows are performed in a huge hall that can seat around 550 spectators! Twice a week, there is a shuttle service that takes guests for free to the Playa de las Américas.
