    Location 7.61 /10

The hotel is just under 2 mi from Golfo Aranci and 164 ft from the town centre and its restaurants, bars, pubs and shops, whilst Olbia International Airport is 11 mi away.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

Several types of accommodation are available to guests at the Gabbiano, the two main categories being standard (56 rooms) and superior (23 rooms), though there are also 4 single rooms and a junior suite. Most of the rooms have a sea view, since only one side of the building overlooks the town, which is still nothing to complain about. The rooms are relatively well-equipped in terms of amenities, with a free safe, flat-screen television, minibar, cable Internet connection for those who don't go anywhere without their laptop, and a balcony so you can take full advantage of the views if you have a room overlooking the sea. All offer a decent level of comfort and are reasonably sized, and the cleanliness here is second to none. The bathrooms, like the rooms, are perfectly decent, with towels and hospitality products also provided. All in all, the rooms are basic yet perfectly decent and welcoming, despite the fact that the decor and the choice of furniture could perhaps do with updating.

    Overview 8.70 /10

The upmarket Gabbiano Azzurro opened in 1968 and was entirely renovated in 2001 and again partially in 2006 (superior rooms and terrace only). The accommodation here consists of 80 guest rooms, offering very pleasant surroundings both inside and out. The lobby is particularly attractive and well-lit thanks to the many picture windows which look out onto the terrace overlooking the sea. The whole establishment is perfectly maintained, with tasteful decor and impeccable service; the staff are attentive to guests' every need. Should you have any specific requests, we are (almost) certain they will be able to satisfy them - the well-being of their guests is something they seem to hold very dear. You certainly won't have reason to complain! Apart from the setting and the welcome, the restaurant services are one of the hotel's best assets. The high-quality cuisine is sophisticated, at least as far as the ' la carte' menu is concerned. There is also a buffet serving breakfast and dinner during high season and whilst we did not get the opportunity to sample this during our visit, you can bet the standard will be just as high. With regards to the guest rooms, unfortunately they are not what you might expect of this type of establishment, and although very comfortable and perfectly well-maintained, they are certainly far from special. Last but not least, the other highlight of the hotel is the beach. The Gabbiano Azzurro enjoys an idyllic location near a fine sandy beach lapped by crystal clear waters, making for picture-postcard surroundings you can't help but stare at in wonder! That's exactly what makes the Gabbiano Azzurro so special; the views are so impressive, you'll never forget them!

    Food and drink 8.95 /10

This is one of the hotel's strongest suits. The Gabbiano Azzuro has only one restaurant, which can accommodate up to 200 people. Guests can choose between two package options, namely bed & breakfast or half-board, the second offering a choice between lunch and dinner during the week. During high season, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served as a buffet, and guests can help themselves to all the starters and desserts they like at lunch and dinner. An ' la carte' option is also offered at a supplement, and needless to say this is highly recommended! The dishes are all carefully prepared and are quite simply divine, perhaps even more so when enjoyed outside on the terrace overlooking the sea. The restaurant offers 180 views across the sea, with its various shades of blue... You can let your imagination do the rest... Once a week, and again, only during the summer months, a buffet dinner (available at a supplement for guests staying on a bed & breakfast basis) is served on the terrace and will go down a treat with music-lovers who, with a bit of luck, might also get to watch the sun set.

Breakfast is served from 7:30 am to 10:00am, lunch from 1:00pm to 2:30pm and dinner from 7:30 - 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

    Beach 9.20 /10

This is the hotel's best asset, along with its restaurant services. The setting is superb, straight out of a picture postcard, with clear, strikingly blue waters which are shallow enough for you to walk several hundred metres out to sea, and a large, fine sandy beach, just as they should be (but rarely actually are). In a nutshell, this is a little piece of paradise you won't want to leave behind! The Gabbiano is, therefore, the ideal base for those who love beautiful beaches and lukewarm waters perfect for swimming in - a real delight!

    To know

The Gabbiano Azzurro has been run by the same family for several years and attracts a primarily Italian, English and German clientele.
During high season, 3 'piano-bar' evenings are organised in the lobby, which can be a very pleasant way to while away a few hours.
