There are few 5-star establishments in Hammamet. Opened in 2009, the Riu Palace Marhaba is in what was once a Sheraton hotel. However, despite its status as a luxury hotel, the Riu Palace offers entertainment, an all-inclusive formula, a kids club and even sports pitches. This refined establishment with its luxurious rooms offers its own version of a palace, between a holiday-club and a city hotel.

Accommodation
8.25/10
Of the 361 guest rooms, 200 (standard or large) are found in round-shaped bungalows that bring to mind 'menzels': lodgings that are typical of Djerba. They all have either a small terrace on the ground floor or a balcony on the first floor, and most of them have a view over the gardens. Only some of them have a view over the sea. One thing you will notice is that they have a lot of character, with their vaulted brick ceiling, salmon-coloured tiling, green fabrics, etc. As for the furnishings, you won't be able to help but like the wooden pieces and especially the huge bed with a splendid headboard. The same goes for the guest rooms in the main building, where the only difference is that the fabrics are red and the furnishings consist of both wood and glass. Being a 5-star hotel, all of the rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, a large plasma-screen television, a safe that is free to use and a mini-bar. Sober but elegant, the bathrooms include a bathtub (plus a shower for the rooms in the main building), a telephone, a hair-dryer and hospitality products.
Overview
8.25/10
Two years of renovations were needed to transform the former Sheraton into the Riu Palace Marhaba. Even though the infrastructures are very refined and elegant, it is still just a luxury resort and not a real palace! As soon as you see its façade, you'll understand that this isn't a small hotel. The spacious lobby only further confirms this. Marble-clad, it comprises columns, a basin with a statue of a horse and furnishings that mainly include pretty, beige leather armchairs. Most of the common areas are in the hotel's large park: a tennis and archery pitch, large outdoor swimming pools, a kids club, etc. First built in 1971, the former Sheraton Hammamet Resort was one of the oldest hotels in this resort town. The new Riu Palace has splendid gardens planted with lots of Mediterranean-style vegetation, including a large variety of trees: palm, olive, apricot, fig, pine and pomegranate. In terms of equipment, you can tell that you're in a 5-star resort, as everything is of the best quality: thick canvas parasols, solid plastic lounge chairs and cloth mattresses. Towels are provided. One of the establishment's most popular spots, though, is its spa. With its indoor saltwater pool, the well-being centre attracts both guests staying at the hotel and the general public.
Food and drink
8.00/10
With an all-inclusive formula and the capacity to hold 800 guests, there was no other choice here than to offer a buffet restaurant. Although the decor is slightly more elegant that what you might find in a holiday-club, it is just as large and noisy. Three theme nights are proposed: Asian, Tunisian and Italian. Guests also have the possibility of dining at the Italian and Tunisian restaurants. However, typical of any resort, they can only dine here once a week under the all-inclusive formula. The final possibility is a barbecue, during high season. Located at the edge of the beach, it includes a mini-buffet of light dishes. It is open midday from 12:30pm to 3:00pm and snacks are served from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.
Beach
7.50/10
Vast and very well-equipped, the beach stretches out for around 300m. You can access it via a concrete alley at the far end of the gardens. It is laid out with cramped rows of parasols and deckchairs with mattresses, which is a bit of a shame since this takes away from the view of the sea. At least the turquoise water and the quiet atmosphere serve as compensation. Guests can participate in various water sports for an extra charge: banana boating, pedalo rides, jet-skiing, kayaking, parasailing, etc.
To know
Open year round, the Riu Palace Marhaba works exclusively on an all-inclusive formula. You might want to note that the Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby.

Well adapted to families and groups of friends, the Hammamet offers a pleasant environment, brightened up by gardens and facilities for a variety of leisure activities. An address to remember also for its friendliness.
Much entertainment and a young atmosphere characterise the Lookéa Sun Garden. With its big spaces, its lively different colours and its lawns, the place is very cheerful. However, you do have to walk some way to get to the beach.
The Orangers Beach Resort and Bungalows is a seaside establishment in Hammamet. It is a classy luxury hotel that has all the necessary ingredients for a superb holiday. A modern establishment with all the facilities you could dream of, it provides a friendly and warm welcome and the cuisine it offers is out of this world. You will walk away with the best of impressions.
Despite its belonging to the Barceló group since 2007, this hotel is not quite up to scratch in comparison with the Spanish chain's other 4 star hotels, particularly as some of its facilities are rather antiquated and the cuisine isn't what it could be. It is also surrounded by vegetation so you may unexpectedly come across some (albeit harmless) insects, but a stroll through the gardens leading down to the superb beach is a real treat, with the aromas of jasmine and orange blossom taking you back to the days of the Thousand and One Nights.
Opened in 1995, the Bel Air offers substandard facilities. The reception area and the rooms are great, but the same cannot be said of the infrastructures strewn around a tiny park. This is seen in the deck-chairs tightly arranged around the swimming-pool. If you want a bit of intimacy, you should head for the beach... but you have to be up for the 500 m walk from the hotel!
Built in 1968, the Samira Club benefits from its long history by being built right at the water's edge. You'd be clever to guess the actual age of this establishment, particularly as the reception and the communal areas really look like they were built yesterday! Unfortunately though, the same cannot be said for the guest rooms, where you'll find both the decor and the amenities disappointing. On the plus side, it'll encourage you to get out for the day and maybe try your hand at some of the many activities available onsite!
Located between the Yasmine zone and central Hammamet, the Sentido Phoenicia is an institution in this seaside resort town. Open since 1973, it has changed quite a lot since its beginnings. A member of the Sentido Group since 2003, the hotel was completely renovated the same year. Although 10 years have gone by, the hotel still offers a very contemporary look thanks to its regular maintenance, as well as a multitude of activities that can be done in its 35 acre park. It is the ideal place for anyone who doesn't like getting bored but who doesn't mind walking either!
