The Gouves Sea was renovated in 2008 and now includes a second building, the 4-star Gouves Mare. Superior rooms can be booked through Frameco for an additional cost. This second building houses all the communal facilities, which are, of course, in perfect condition. The building itself is brand new and painted in romantic pinky shades, and its small interior courtyards are particularly charming. The original building is more true to the Cretan identity of the hotel, with small lounge areas adorned with family portraits, giving the place a truly authentic feel. However, although this older part of the hotel is well-maintained, it can sometimes seem abandoned, as the old restaurant and reception area now stand empty.
The hotel has not one, but two swimming pools, although the space around them is limited which means that parasols and deckchairs are laid out in the nearby gardens. The hotel also boasts a tennis court, a basketball court and a children's play area.
