The Star Beach Village is ideal for families and tight budgets, and is, as its name indicates, built like a village. It includes several buildings that provide various versions of studios, all of which include a private kitchen. Located in the town of Hersonissos, which is well known for its wild nightlife and parties that continue, full swing, into the early hours, it's close to the sea but doesn't provide direct access to the beach.

    The hotel is ideally located in the seaside resort village of Hersonissos, which is well known for its wild club nights hosted by international DJs who keep the dance floors full well into the early hours. Hersonissos is 15 and a half miles from Heraklion airport and is home to Crete's only golf course, in case you plan to practice your swing during your holiday. If you want to go on an excursion to discover the eastern part of Crete and the region of Agios Nikolaos, expect a 22 mi journey.

    The establishment's 188 accommodation units come in several categories: 103 studios (approximately 28m²), 56 apartments (32m²), 23 superior apartments (50m²), and 6 suites. They can accommodate couples or families of varying sizes. The communal areas are devoid of any interesting feature. The studios are quite spacious but offer nothing in the way of interior decorating. The amenities are adequate: individual air conditioning, fridge... and little more. You have to pay for the Wifi or use of the safe and the TV set is of the CRT variety. The marble-clad bathrooms have a bathtub and the rooms have a balcony or a terrace (those located on the ground floor). You should also know that the hotel has 5 rooms designed to accommodate guests with reduced mobility.

    This aptly-named hotel was built in 2005 and has been organised as a village. The site includes 8 easily accessible buildings with tree-lined alleys. The lobby is spacious and provides refreshing shade. Its interior decorating boasts a chic and tasteful marine inspiration, with portholes and ship rails, and offers numerous comfy nooks and sitting rooms. The main bar is open from 5:00pm till 1:00am. There are some 20 computers connected to the Internet available to guests for a fee. The bay windows afford a nice view of the sea. Opposite the reception desk there is a supermarket that sells pretty much everything you need for a stay in one of the apartments. There is an outdoor bar next to the huge children's club that is open from 10:00am till noon and from 3:00pm till 5:30pm. The swimming pool is quite large and includes a smaller pool, and a few deckchairs and sunshades are available for guests to use for free. A small fence separates this area from the road and unfortunately the traffic from here can be heard. The fitness centre is rather dull but well equipped and looks straight out onto the swimming pool.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

    The main restaurant has a beautiful terrace sheltered by a pergola. It has a capacity of about 300 and can cater for an additional 200 guests in the cooler basement room. The food is served as a buffet of local and international dishes, and every week a theme evening is organised (Italian, Cretan, etc.).

    Beach 7.20 /10

    The beach isn't all that exciting. In fact, rather than a beach, it's a stretch of fine sand that is barely wide enough to include a couple of deckchairs and sunshades, for which you have to pay. The sea is clear enough but there are numerous stones and a lot of seaweed. You have to pay for the use of a beach towel.

    The establishment is built on the apartment-hotel concept, where each room includes a kitchenette with all that you may need: a stove, crockery, etc. On the other side of the street, by the sea, there is a massive nautical entertainment centre. It includes restaurants, bars, entertainment facilities, water fountains, and of course... a beach. The entrance is free. The establishment does not offer an all-inclusive formula.
