    Location 7.5 /10

The LKF is on Hong Kong island, and takes its name from the initials of the highly trendy district where it is located, Lan Kwai Fong (just next to Central, the city's financial district). The hotel entrance is on Hollywood Road, a pleasant street of antique dealers. The hotel is some 24 mi from Hong Kong international airport, a 35-minute taxi journey away, but beware of traffic jams, as they can easily add half an hour to your journey!

    Accommodation 9.45 /10

The hotel's 95 impeccable rooms (including 22 twin rooms) are divided into 6 categories according to size, and are spread over the various floors, which are all designed in the same way. On every floor, the design changes from one room to another. The corner rooms, for example, have a nice space with a bay window, a tropical shower and a bathtub. Most of the rooms have unobstructed views and the geometry of all of these private spaces creates a stylish, designer effect. Depending on which floor you are on, your room might be finished in a combination of soft shades of colour and thick, light wood, or more pronounced, masculine colours and darker wood. This ever-present contrast between light and dark is more or less pronounced in different parts of the hotel. In the rooms, high tech features are abound for maximum comfort: superb bed linen and a remarkable headboard (in leather), a very wide flat-screen television with a choice of 39 channels, a surround sound system, very quiet individual air-conditioning, a very well stocked minibar with tea and coffee-making facilities, an Illy coffee machine, a free safe, a telephone, internet connection, etc. Even the desk chair is remarkably well designed for comfort (try it, you'll want to take it home with you!). The leather-topped desk also conceals various sockets for your electronic appliances. The excellent photos on display in all the rooms are unique, and even the light fittings (diffusers, reading lamps, control panels by the bed which also activate the curtains) are the work of craftsmanship. The spacious bathrooms are all decked out in cream, and some of them have bay windows which let in plenty of light. Once more, everything has been carefully selected, from the materials (e.g. marble) to the accessories (glass scales, a magnifying mirror, a set of Milton Brown hospitality products, dressing gowns and slippers). The bathtub, toilet and washbasin can be separated from one another with glass partitions. Don't forget, you can also buy the bath towels.
The 9 suites take up the three top floors given over to accommodation. The suites also have impressive wooden panels which separate the bedroom from the lounge area, and, as well as the dressing-room, the small television in the bathroom, etc., we especially liked the many bay windows in these rooms. Room service and a butler are available 24 hours a day.

    Overview 8.70 /10

The LKF opened in 2006 in a tower of only 14 floors high which overlooks the highly trendy Lan Kwai Fong district and also houses a number of popular bars and restaurants, each occupying one floor. Once in through the inconspicuous entrance, you leave behind you the frenetic pace of city life and enter a calm setting of blacks, browns and creams. Service staff are present from the word go. The comfy armchairs in the spacious, rectangular stylish reception area are perfect for relaxing on. The other communal areas - the bar, meeting rooms, and a very popular restaurant - are on the two top floors of the building. You will need to walk through the restaurant to gain access to a small, pleasant space fitted out with wooden floorboards and plants, where you can take in the view of the skyline and enjoy the fresh air, a rare luxury in Hong Kong hotels.
The meeting rooms are very cosy little alcove spaces next to the counter of the bar, and they can be entirely closed off from the rest of the bar area by sliding panels. The decor is colonial in style, with a bladed fan on the ceiling, a lot of wood on display, and a fireplace with a mirror above it. Indeed, you will be tempted to stay here for a while, but take care to enjoy the drinks menu with moderation. The very popular bar has a carpet on the cream marble floor, a black, rounded counter behind which stand rows of bottles, and superb wall seats up against the bay windows.

    Food and drink 9.20 /10

Breakfast is served in the bar's cosy and stylish lounge area, with rays of sunshine filtering in and warming up the peaceful room The few dishes on offer are set out on a table in the middle of the room, and an 'a la carte' menu is also available. The various dishes are all prepared at the hotel. A spiral staircase leads to the top floor, which is painted blue-grey and completely taken up by the hotel's large, rectangular restaurant. It is a feast for the eyes and for the taste buds, as the very sophisticated decor (which contrasts strikingly with the understated lower floors) is just as impressive as the table display and the delicious dishes. Foie gras, fresher-than-fresh seafood, Wagyu beef, etc. can all be enjoyed in this famous and very busy restaurant, which mainly serves European cuisine. The menu is changed on a monthly basis, and the specialities of the well-known chef are to be recommended! A DJ sets up his decks in one corner of the restaurant on the weekend, starting with quiet music over dinner and gradually cranking up the volume as the night goes on until everyone is up on their feet and dancing around the tables. As you sit comfortably at your table, you can see the bright street lights of the city down below through the large bay windows.

    To know

The hotel belongs to the Rhombus chain, which was founded by a Canadian. Lots of guests come here on their honeymoon, and most of the customers are American, followed by the English and the Germans.
The LKF has won many awards and featured in the pages of various publications, including The Sunday Times.
It is possible to stay here with your pet, but you will have to book a separate room for it. Two rooms are fitted out to cater for people with reduced mobility. You will soon start to feel an attachment to the place, which explains why a lot of the hotel's guests are not here on their first visit.

The Novotel Century is a highly modern and ideally located hotel on the island of Honk Kong, at the heart of all the hustle and bustle. The guests are mainly people on business trips who choose this hotel for its proximity to the business district and the many services on offer. Unfortunately though, the welcome is not the warmest and the staff are not always very friendly, which contributes to making this very stylish establishment a rather cold and impersonal place to stay.

The Kowloon is the place to stay if you really want to be at the heart of the frenetic 'Manhattan' of Asia. Despite its luxury, you should not expect to find extraordinary facilities in this functional but somewhat outdated hotel, which is surprising for Hong Kong, and its enormous capacity means that the communal areas feel rather like busy railway terminals. A special mention should go to the French chef here who prepares generous and delicious buffets.
