Amy Adejokun Section editor

As with all the hotels in this area, the Andromeda hangs off the cliff, opposite the caldera. Needless to say, the view is magnificent from every corner of the hotel. However, the architecture, so typical of the island, set as it is over several floors, will have you going up and down stairs all day long. The great asset of this hotel? Its two lifts! Very few hotels have lifts here, so make the most of it!

    Location 3.04 /10

The Andromeda was built on the cliffside, near the village of Imerovigli, one and a half miles away from the town of Fira. If you are a good walker, you can get there on foot. This is why car rental isn't really necessary as Imerovigli's little pedestrian streets are directly accessible on foot. There is also a bus station, 330 ft from the hotel. As for the airport, it is approximately 6 mi away, which means a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

The Andromeda's 59 bedrooms are spread in a random way across small cliff-side units. Three categories are available: basic standard, suites and apartments. Outside, each room has a small balcony with garden furniture but they are not far enough from each other. Inside, the prominent blue on the walls blends very well with the beige fabrics. All bedrooms have a beautiful clear view of the caldera, and they all possess the same equipment: television, air-conditioning, a safe, a mini-bar, a hairdryer, a direct line for international calls and room service until 12 midnight. Although they are badly sound-proofed, as is the case for most of the accommodation here, you should probably choose a room facing the pool, as you will have direct access to it.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The Andromeda, which hangs off the cliff facing the caldera, is a five-floor building which reflects Santorini's typical, local architecture. The hotel opened over thirteen years ago, and it has developed considerably over the years. It has many staircases, some of which can be avoided thanks to the two lifts. 300 metres above sea-level, the view from here is magnificent! The small reception area, decorated in the Mediterranean style, is furnished with wicker units and blue is the prominent shade. Although it is not very extravagant, it is a very pleasant place. Outside, just opposite the reception, lies a rectangular pool surrounded by deck chairs and a few parasols, the quantity of which is not quite sufficient when you consider the number of bedrooms. There is a second solarium with plastic deck chairs down below.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The Andromeda's restaurant consists of a small room and an outdoor terrace. Again, everything is very attractive and clad in blue, although it is not very spacious. It feels more like a small family-run canteen than a real restaurant. Breakfast is served as a buffet, but you will be able to choose from an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Traditional, Mediterranean cuisine is served.

The morphology of Santorini is a result of the now-extinct volcano's activity. Some of the beaches are pebble beaches, others are black sand beaches. Considering the abrupt relief on the west side, the Santorini beaches are to be found along the east coast. Do not expect to find tropical-looking beaches because there aren't any. That doesn't mean that the landscapes are any less beautiful though.
Located approximately 6 mi from Fira, Kamari beach is covered in black sand and stretches over 3 mi. A promenade runs along the seafront. Just beyond Kamari beach is Monolithos beach, which is a peaceful beach with a landscape similar to that of Kamari. 10 mi south-west from Fira, Perissa's black sand beach is over 4 mi long. It is quite a lively beach in the summer because of the numerous shops, bars and restaurants. If you want to be different, go to the red beach. It is also a black sand beach, but it is surrounded by huge red cliffs. The water is crystal clear. You must go to this one on foot or by caïque. It is one of Santorini's most famous and most beautiful. It is not far from Akrotiri. Vlychada is in the region of Perivolos and is generally the island's least visited beach. Finally, there are two beautiful beaches in the north which are generally used by tourists staying in Oia. Ammoudi is located just under Oia, on the north-western end of the island, whereas Armeni is above and a little further away.

    To know

The hotel is open during the summer season (April to October).
The nearest beach is that of Baxedes (to the north). The sand there is volcanic, as on the rest of the island, but the sea is incomparable...
Many guests hire a motor scooter to go about the island. If you would rather hire a car, be aware that there is a nearby local car park.
The clientele mainly consists of couples, although kids are welcome. You should, however, avoid bringing toddlers here because of the stairs.
