Benefitting from an ideal location facing the sea and close to both the airport and the city of Khasab, the Golden Tulip Khasab is a quiet, friendly-sized resort surrounded by the grandiose Musandam mountains. It's an establishment we recommend to families and couples in search of relaxation, and provides an excellent starting point to discover the Musandam's fjords or to go dolphin spotting.

    Location 6.0 /10

The hotel is only 3 mi from both the airport and the city of Khasab, the main city and gateway of the Musandam peninsula, separated from the Omani territory by a territorial zone belonging to the Emirate of Sharjat in the United Arab Emirates. Khasab is approximately 400 mi north of Muscat (a 1hr flight). The border with the United Arab Emirates is only 30 mi away and it will take 3 hours to drive to Dubaï (100 mi). Le Golden Tulip Khasab benefits from an ideal location, as it faces the Persian Gulf, and offers a beautiful view of the Musandam mountains dropping into the sea.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a basket of delicious local fruit. Drop your luggage on the luggage rack, recline in one of the two armchairs next to the wooden coffee table, and admire the paintings depicting the daily Omani way of life while enjoying a couple of dates. Now how's that for ambience!
The rooms are fitted with tile flooring and furnished with an armchair, a wooden desk with a mirror, two separate double beds or a king size bed, and a large balcony with two chairs and a white plastic table, offering guests superb views of the surrounding sea and mountains. All are equipped with a large flat-screen TV (32 channels), a code-protected safe (free), tissues, a minibar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and a direct international telephone line. However, there is no Internet access. Room service is available from 7:00am until midnight. The bathroom has a large shower with a fixed shower head, a make-up mirror, a set of scales, a toilet, hospitality products, a laundry line, and a hair-dryer.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The Golden Tulip Khasab is part of the Dutch Golden Tulip brand (that belongs to the French Louvre Hôtels Group); it opened in 2003 and was renovated during the month of February 2009. It includes 60 rooms and 3 suites, spread throughout a 3 storey sand-coloured (48 units) and a second 2 storey building in the same colour (12 units with a mountain view).
From the lobby, guests can enjoy the fantastic view of the Musandam mountains that slope down into the Persian Gulf. The same view may be enjoyed from the panoramic terrace that surrounds the bean-shaped pool, the depth of which varies between 0.8m and 1m80. This pool stays open 24/7. As for children, they have a round pool and a playground to muck about in. Plastic deckchairs with mattresses in the shade of wooden parasols are available for guests to recline in. Feeling a little thirsty? Just press the button and a waiter will arrive and take your order. This very enjoyable solarium terrace overlooking the sea is fitted with a shower, and towels are graciously provided to guests.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The restaurant has a capacity of about 60 diners but lacks in originality. Having said that, the view of the sea is quite decent and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cuisine. The Lebanese mezze (small snacks) are out of this world! There are also Asian and Indian specialties on offer, and sometimes you can order the catch of the day. After your meal, enjoy an excellent mint tea, which is a good as the Moroccan version.
Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:30am, lunch from 12:00pm to 4:30pm, and dinner from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. Meals are served à la carte, or, if there are enough guests, as a buffet. You may also enjoy your meal on the panoramic terrace that overlooks the sea, next to the swimming pool. A buffet supper is put on on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

    Beach 7.45 /10

There is a public beach about a hundred meters from the hotel but it offers no equipment and is unsupervised. There are, however, steps leading from the front of the Golden Tulip to the sea, as well as a ladder providing access to the water. A jetty at the hotel gives you the opportunity to go on boat excursions that will take you around the Musandam fjords, giving you a good look at the mountains plunging into the sea. It's not rare to catch a glimpse of a dolphin from the hotel's terrace, as they come in droves to the area in the afternoons! The diving centre is open non-stop from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

    To know

Dolphins can often be seen from the hotel's panoramic terrace. There is a special prayer room for Muslim guests. Although it is also adapted to cater for guests on business, most of the clientele is made up of holidaymakers, most of which are Europeans (90%, with 80% French). A computer connected to the Internet is available in the lobby for free. There is a jetty from where you can leave on boat excursions directly from the hotel. The gym includes a ping-pong table and table football and affords a magnificent view of the sea. You can also try your hand at darts or billiards in the English pub, which is open from 4:00pm to 1:00am. A sports bar decorated in a typically British style, it provides the perfect setting for following a football match. Then there is the Mirage bar, where, thanks to the belly dancers, the atmosphere is altogether different. Open from 6:00pm to 3:00am, it attracts a local clientèle.
