The origins of the Tongsai Bay seem to be lost somewhere in Thai mythology. As with any myth, it is unclear as to what is the truth and what has been invented. However, the story is worth telling. It is said that the owners of the complex, originally from Thailand, fell in love with Tongsai bay when they spotted it from the sea. This was over 24 years ago and at the time it was a deserted beach. The owner then pitched a tent and slept there for a month, dreaming of how to build his hotel.
Whether myth or a publicity story, it suits the resort rather well. Situated along the entire length of the bay, the resort stretches out on all sides, with large spaces in an skilfully maintained lush green setting. It is possible to get around by golf cart, even if the majority of the common areas are thankfully located at the centre of the complex. The reception is in a semi-open pavilion at the entrance to the property and has various different relaxation areas with small sofas and swing seats. The resort's spa and two swimming pools are located on the beach in the lower part of the property. The view of the bay is nice, but it is a pity that the area around the pool includes so much concrete, detracting from the beauty of the natural environment offered by its proximity to the beach. In general, the pool area shows the most obvious signs of the passage of time (the complex is over 20 years old), because although well maintained, there are some signs of wear and tear.
The pool reserved exclusively for adults is in better condition; perched on the hillside, it is sheltered by plants and offers a beautiful view of the sea. With a no children rule and the chaos they bring, this is a space dedicated to tranquillity.
On the opposite hillside is the Prana Spa. Nestled amidst beautiful and abundant vegetation, this small spa has a subtle and surprising charm. The treatment room is entirely clad in wood while the shower and outdoor bathtub (also used for body treatments) are made of stone. The hotel has really managed to create a pleasant (modestly-sized) spa that emanates a delicate graceful feeling.
