The Themis Beach is a budget hotel located at the heart of an area swamped by seaside residences with rather generic and untraditional architecture. It has a fair number of guest rooms, and its friendly team will make you feel right at home very quickly. The hotel operates primarily on an all-inclusive or full-board basis.

    Location 6.0 /10

The Themis Beach is located in Kokkini Hani, a small village where the mountains meet the sea. Given that this is a tourist resort, music coming from other establishments can disturb the peace and quiet in even the most tranquil of hotels. The village of Gouves, with its various bars and restaurants, is also just a stone's throw away. The hotel is 6 mi from Heraklion airport.

    Accommodation 7.00 /10

The rooms are spacious and generally comfortable, and even have a small lounge area with a sofa and coffee table, as well as a pleasant balcony with flowers overlooking the sea or the gardens, but the decor is a little minimalist. Amenities include a hair-dryer, mini-refrigerator, television, radio and individual air-conditioning, whilst the double-glazing and shutters make the rooms pretty sound-proof. The bathrooms are also spacious, but have undoubtedly been neglected.

    Overview 6.50 /10

The hotel's 157 guest rooms are housed over four floors in a large, charmless, white building, whilst the communal areas are unpretentious but well maintained and welcoming. The hotel's only swimming pool is quite pleasant and overlooks the sea, making it perfect for relaxing on a deckchair in the shade of one of the parasols provided for your comfort. If you prefer to keep active on holiday, though, you might like to head to the gym, or to the tennis, volleyball or basketball courts.

    Food and drink 7.50 /10

Meals are taken in the blue and yellow surroundings of the buffet restaurant, which is adorned with paintings inspired by ancient Greece. Unfortunately, there is no terrace to sit and eat outside, but the large picture windows overlooking the sea do offer some consolation. The buffet is very varied and showcases a selection of Greek and Italian dishes every day, along with a wide range of oils and flavoured breads to get the taste buds going.

    Beach 6.50 /10

A long, fine sandy beach with clear water and few rocks stretches out just a few feet in front of the hotel, but it can get busy here, and as the Themis Beach does not rent a section of the beach specifically for its guests, there is a charge of ?7 a day for 2 deckchairs and a parasol, should you wish to use such amenities. A variety of motorised water sports are also available at the private water sports club nearby, though these do, of course, incur an additional charge.

    To know

The Themis Beach was built in 1981 and whilst its 158 rooms were renovated in 2004, the spacious lobby and the swimming pool had to wait until 2007 for their turn. The hotel is only open to the public from April until the end of October and attracts a very cosmopolitan clientele of primarily Italian, French and Slovak tourists. It operates on a full-board or all-inclusive basis, the latter including as many soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and local cocktails as you care for.
