In Kuta.
The rooms, arranged around the light patio area, are spacious and decorated in a pleasant but generic fashion. Pleasantly floored with wood parquet, they are well furnished: comfortable bed, 65-ft² balcony (with table and chairs), 7-channel satellite TV, safe, stocked mini bar and 24 hour room service. The bathroom is large enough, with bath/shower and hairdryer. Two faults: mediocre soundproofing (important for a reason - numerous guests often returning from nightclubs in the middle of the night), and the air conditioning that only works on three modes (very cold even on lowest setting, then too hot when switched off).
Built in 1990, the Ramada Bintang is made up of various buildings located on both sides of a building containing the lobby and main restaurant. The centre of the complex is filled with a garden, scattered with walkways winding toward the sea. A large pool is close to the beach, the pool benefiting from artificial rocks, waterfalls and a stage. The pool adjoins the Italian bar/restaurant whose terrace faces the sea. The overall look of the hotel is pleasant, even if it is lacking in Balinese charm and a large park as offered by similar establishments. We were reasonably impressed by the communal areas, bars and restaurants though they are poorly situated for a hotel able to accommodate up to 800 people. There are few sporting facilities, apart from a gym (large and well equipped but slightly faded) and two tennis courts.
The two restaurants seem insufficient with regard to the guest capacity of the hotel. In addition, they are not particulalrly charming, especially the main restaurant. On the menu: Italian, Indonesian, Balinese and international specialities, all perfectly pleasant. The main restaurant is open 24 hours.
Covered in sand, the beach is not unpleasant, but is surrounded by concrete jetties. As on all beaches in Kuta, vendors will accost you on your exit from the hotel. Therefore, clients generally stay poolside, or walk to the main part of Kuta's beach, 1,640/1,970 feet further west.
The hotel has a kids club, an Internet cafe, and offers free shuttle buses to the airport.

A good reputation, a pleasant park, and various restaurtants, the Bali Garden is a "mid range" hotel, well located in Kuta. However, it does not quite reach the same standard as the majority of the 4* hotels on the island.
A stone's throw from the centre of Kuta, on the seafront, the Holiday Inn is an establishment offering standard levels of comfort and a decor lacking in originality. Nevertheless, it has a pleasant setting and offers a convivial atmosphere.
A small, unpretentious hotel, in the heart of Kuta. Despite the urban setting and lack of facilities, it offers a calm, pleasant atmosphere and a restaurant with an excellent quallity/price ratio.
Situated to the north of Kuta, on the sea front, the Jayakarta is a standard facilities establishment. Built just 10 years ago, the facilities and rooms could do with a serious facelift.
Direcly on the seafront, the Melasti offers its clientele a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere as well as a good level of facilities. The lack of leisure equipment is a shame, however.
The Meridien is a high standard hotel offering flawless comfort and facilities. Though it cannot offer direct access to the sea, its views over Tanah Lot temple and the coastal beauty of the location give the hotel real added value.
An friendly setting, a warm welcome, and simple, adequate facilities: the Wina is a great location in order to enjoy Kuta's attractions.
Set amid the greenery, this property consists of 4 atypical villas that are both huge and well spaced out. The Villa Mathis is in fact run by a Belgian couple and is the ideal destination for a group holiday with friends or family, in beautiful, comfortable, and modern surroundings that reflect the colourful Bali lifestyle. You might be interested to know that you can hire out the entire villa for a private reception should you so wish. It's a shame though that the beach, which isn't exactly nearby, isn't suitable for water sports or swimming.
Located in the centre of Kuta, the Hard Rock offers a trendy setting, like the Hard Rock Cafe located next door. The hotel is full of very modern equipment and a well-considered decor that nonetheless has nothing to do with Balinese style. This hotel is better suited to those out for a good time than those looking to enjoy the best of Bali.

This hotel stands out from the rest of the establishments in the area for its rather daring and original concept: composed of a series of villas offering upscale hotel services, it is located in a very isolated spot. Edged by rice fields and facing the sea, the establishment is located an hour along the coast from Seminyak. It must be said that the concept has proven a real success, especially teamed with the hotel's very pleasant modern architecture and wonderful facilities mostly aimed at couples seeking a private retreat. What's more, those who enjoy face and body treatments will love the hotel's spa, with its elegant dim lighting, but if it's a beach you're after, you may be disappointed.
