Opened in 1997, the Andaman is a beautiful hotel lost between sea and mountain. Its surrounding jungle is an undeniable asset for the setting's beauty. It is a neighbour of the Datai hotel, with which it shares the beach. But unlike the latter, the Andaman is more for families. It has a kids club and various features designed for them.

    Location 3.0 /10

To the Northwest of the island of Langkawi, the Andaman is located forty minutes from the airport, which is located to the Southwest. It is a neighbour of the Datai hotel. The capital Kuah is 12 miles away from there, opposite the hotel, to the Southeast of the island. It is a good forty-five minute ride to get there.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

The first glimpse of the Andaman is a gigantic wooden-framed entrance hall. Flowery pools adorn the lobby entrance. In the centre you will discover a gigantic wooden chair, a representation of a pedestal where the king spoke to the crowd. The sitting rooms are arranged around it. The reception area is on the left, behind a square wooden counter, supported by an imitation red brick wall. Down below, you will find a beautiful swimming pool whose round shapes unite perfectly with the decoration. It is one of the most beautiful swimming pools that we saw in Langkawi. It seems hidden within beautiful luxurious plant life. Wooden deckchairs and sunshades are set up around the pool. However, the plastic mattresses should be replaced by fabric mattresses. However, their turquoise green colour recalls the surrounding plant life and the bottom of the swimming pool.
The name of the hotel's spa is simply the Spa. The magnificent setting overhangs the Andaman sea. The reception area, surrounded by a pool, welcomes clients with a scented napkin and a lemon and ginger tea. Some pavilions have a terrace allowing you to get massages outside, facing the sea...

    Overview 8.45 /10

The Andaman is built in bow form so that each of the 187 rooms has a sea view, more or less unobstructed. There are seven different categories of room. The standard is very elegant thanks especially to its red, white and black colours, as well as its pure lines. The decoration is contemporary. The balcony is not very large but the room has a completely reasonable surface area, where it holds all the necessary equipment: air conditioning, television, safe, mini-bar and tea and coffee kit, direct line for international calling and room service 24h a day. The marble bathroom has a shower but also a separate bathtub. The mosaic tiling with different shades of green is pleasant. Hair dryer, bathrobes and welcome products are available.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

There are three restaurants whose names are self-explanatory. The Restaurant, the main restaurant, offers a buffet and an international cuisine but also local specialities for all three meals of the day. The Japanese Restaurant is, like its name indicates, a real Japanese restaurant where you have dinner on tatami mats. It operates a la carte. The third one, the Gulai House, offers traditional Malaysian curries as well as Indian specialities, only for dinner. Finally, when the weather is nice, the hotel organises barbecues on a terrace next to the swimming pool, facing the beach. To quench your thirst, the Lobby Lounge is open every evening and swings to the rhythm of a Filipino orchestra.

    Beach 7.70 /10

The Andaman is one of the rare hotels of Malaysia that have its own beach. The beach is not private since it is shared with the Datai, but there are no other means to get to it. The location is not too windy since the bay is protected on each side. On the other side, Thailand is only 5 miles away, so you can clearly see its coasts. The water is clear enough and the sand soft, however the tide makes the sand a bit silty in the water.

    To know

The water sports club offers many activities. On the other hand, you will not find any motorized water sports. This was the hotel's choice in order to maintain the stillness for its clients on the beach, but also to protect the environment. The hotel organised different excursions on the island including a stroll in the forest accompanied by a botanist guide in order to show the clients the island's fauna and flora. You can go to theme evenings like a traditional music show, or even a snake-holding demonstration.
