With a touch of nostalgia for days gone by, when Indochina and hedonism ruled, this is the ideal place for a few days away in the city of excess (and sin!). The chic, classy Mandalay Bay hotel embodies the charm of southern Asia, its imposing frame home to a shark reef and various aquariums, among other things. When it comes to relaxation, you'll find the pool here claims to be the most beautiful in all of Vegas, and the hotel even has its very own artificial beach.

    Location 5.06 /10

The Mandalay Bay stands next to the Luxor at the very far end of the Strip, on the way out to the airport. All of the other hotels are located to the north of the Mandalay Bay. The airport, meanwhile, is around a 20-minute drive away.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

The somewhat quaint ambience in the hotel's 3,309 tropically-decorated yet chic and casual guest rooms is in keeping with that of the hotel as a whole. The decor here consists of warm, welcoming colours such as beige, green, orange and brown, and you really do get the pleasant feeling that time has stood still. Of course, you'll find all the modern comforts you would expect here, including air-conditioning, a television, a telephone, an iPod docking station, an internet connection, a mini-bar and a radio, among other things. The bathrooms, meanwhile, are generously-sized and come with both a shower and a bathtub, 2 washbasins, a television you can watch whilst in the bath or shower, a range of hospitality products, a hair-dryer and a bathrobe, whilst the decor here is low-key, with lots of white marble and a dark wooden vanity unit. The decor in the suites is a combination of modernity and a tropical vibe.

Turning, now, to the 424 guest rooms at the Four Seasons, these are a little more modern in terms of decor (in shades of brown, beige and grey) and are less quaint than the rooms at the Mandalay Bay. The rooms at the Four Seasons are located on the 35th to 39th floors of the hotel, with a lift reserved exclusively for the use of Four Seasons guests. In-room amenities here include an iPod docking station, tea and coffee-making facilities, air-conditioning, a television and newspapers as well as milk, cookies and video games for the children.

    Overview 8.70 /10

The Mandalay Bay is a luxury 5* hotel with an Asian theme which more specifically focuses on the quaint old-fashioned charm of Myanmar but with a touch of nostalgia for the Indochina years. In fact, the decor here is undeniably heavily-influenced by this period in history, complete with fans, palms, subdued lighting with a yellowy tinge, foliage-style wrought-iron light chandeliers, marble with floral and palm motifs and yellow, black and white tiling. These are just some of the decorative features likely to bring memories flooding black for a whole generation of visitors. Having said that, the Mandalay Bay also knows how to cater for children, with a huge aquarium dominating the lobby underneath a glass roof and another much larger aquarium where you'll find sharks, skate and various other interesting marine species. The hotel opened its doors in March 1999 and was renovated in 2007. In the meantime, the MGM Group which owns the Mandalay Bay opened the boutique hotel The Hotel just behind the Mandalay Bay in 2004.
Let's cut this down to what you really need to know. The Four Seasons is a four-storey 424-room hotel which is actually housed in the same building as the Mandalay Bay, though guests staying at the former have their own separate lobby. Facilities at the Four Seasons include two restaurants, a swimming pool and a spa.

Coming back to the Mandalay Bay, there really is something for everyone here, whether you're young or old, and travelling with family, friends or a partner. Indeed, with an aquarium, a Shark Reef, wave pools, a heated pool, a casino, 2 spas, a gym, various bars, live music, shops, galleries and even nightclubs, you'd be hard-pushed not to find something that takes your fancy! The pool area here is in fact a sandy beach, and no - your eyes are not deceiving you - there is indeed a sandy beach here in the middle of the dessert! Between the palm trees, deckchairs, day-beds and beach cabanas, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Miami, and this is certainly the nicest pool area in all of Vegas. When it comes to evening entertainment, various shows are put on for visitors' enjoyment, including the famous musical The Lion King, which is currently playing at the Mandalay Bay.

    Food and drink 9.20 /10

If you can never decide what you fancy to eat, fear not, as there are only 19 restaurants to choose from here, all serving cuisine from around the world! A visit to the inevitable buffet, which was renovated in 2007, is also a must! The decor here is anything but kitsch, edging rather towards stylish, minimalist surroundings but with a tropical feel and plenty of wood and greenery. A huge wooden framework runs across the top of the room and there are fans on the ceiling. The cuisine served here is primarily international. If your taste buds fancy a change, you can choose between Japanese, Russian, Brazilian, Mexican, Italian and Chinese cuisine, not forgetting American, of course! One of the restaurants, the Auréole, will be a big hit with wine-lovers thanks to its beautiful wine cellar which dominates the centre of the restaurant from behind its glass screen. The Fleur de Lys, meanwhile, specialises in French cuisine, serving a selection of seafood and fish dishes in romantic surroundings. Music fans, however, might prefer to dine at the House of Blues. The menu here consists of various Cajun specialties, burgers, salads, Creole dishes and even grills, and live music is performed from Monday to Friday, with a Gospel brunch starting at 10:00am every Sunday.

    To know

The Mandalay Bay consists of several different buildings, namely the Mandalay Bay, The Hotel, a boutique hotel built in 2004, and the four-storey Four Seasons.
The Mandalay Bay is home to one of Las Vegas's most spectacular attractions, so thrill-seekers might want to listen up here! There is, in fact, a huge shark aquarium within the walls of the hotel where you'll also find crocodiles, skate, piranhas and various species of tropical fish. Once night falls, why not relax with a drink in The Mix restaurant-lounge bar on the 64th floor of The Hotel and enjoy the breath-taking 360-degree views across Las Vegas.

Elegance and design come together in the same place at The Hotel. This boutique hotel is an attractive option for those looking for some peace and quiet in this swarming city (and yes, Las Vegas can seem a real jungle for some visitors!). Luxury in its purest form is basically what you'll find here. The bonus will definitely be the breathtaking view from the 64th floor, where Vegas will be at your feet, making it easy to master the city.

There's no need to get out your Indiana Jones costume at the Luxor: the treasure was discovered long ago! On arrival, you will be transported into the mythical world of Cleopatra and the pharaohs. Fans of this period of history (young and old alike) are sure to be swept away by the Luxor's decor, although some might find the kitsch aspect of it a bit too much.

This is probably not the castle of your dreams, but your children will love the place. The first word that comes to mind is 'kitsch'. So if ' kitsch' is your thing, when you step inside you won't be disappointed. At night time, when it is all lit up though, the castle does seem a little less kitsch and really looks quite nice. Hey, you're in Vegas after all!

The New York New York hotel is considered to be a 'little' hotel. Of course, in Vegas, everything is relative, but compared to the colossal masses on the Strip, the New York New York is of a moderate size. Once you come face to face with it, you will feel as if you're in Brooklyn or Manhattan. The atmosphere of 'New York' will make you forget for a moment that you are in Vegas, in the middle of the desert.

Who hasn't heard of the Bellagio, the hotel made famous worldwide thanks to the film Ocean's Eleven? This imposing building is really something special and is even more impressive by night, when it is illuminated by its dancing fountains. Decorated in a typical Italian Renaissance style, taste and class are what this hotel-casino is all about, and, come nightfall, the dancing fountains are not to be missed!

As one of the very first casino-hotels of the avenue, the Flamingo hotel is a true institution on the Strip. Its crowning glory is its cool and tranquil tropical gardens, where pink flamingos nonchalantly strut about and the new 'sexy' Flamingo Go guest rooms are also well worth a mention as they are amazing and ideal for a stay in Vegas.

A mirage at the heart of the Nevada dessert??? Don't worry, your eyes are not playing tricks on you - the huge glass building standing proudly against the backdrop of the Nevada mountains is just The Mirage hotel, with its imposing architecture and erupting volcano that attracts many a curious eye. Once inside, the hotel provides an oasis of freshness, complete with palm trees, fish, waterfalls, and animals. You'll soon notice the theme of the hotel is Hawaii; all that's missing are the waves, the surfers, and the leis.

A discreet hotel in the city of excess, difficult to imagine but not something to scoff at. Here, at the heart of the local bedlam, reigns an oasis of calm and Zen. Nobu Matsuhisa and Robert de Niro, his perpetual accomplice, have joined forces for an attempt at their very first hotel. A master stroke? Not far off.
You just need to follow the beautiful backlit onyx sign at Caesars Palace to leave the clicking of its slot machines and the shouts of the craps players behind and enter into the peaceful world of the Nobu. At a small reception, a personable young man or a woman will greet you, check you in on his or her iPad and then off you go to the upper floors in an upholstered lift, with Japanese fabrics of course. A quick history lesson for those that haven't heard of Nobu. He is one of the most famous restaurant owners in the world. Curiously not in France though, where the cash flow for the Nobu restaurant in Paris was exhausted by its partners, including a famous television presenter, forcing it to close very quickly. Elsewhere (London, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York etc.), Nobu has been a roaring success with his recipes inspired from a blend of Japanese cuisine and American fusion food. Delicious, healthy and original. Nobu's partner is Robert de Niro himself. He is also the co-founder of their first hotel, which is designed to offer all the refinement and originality of Nobu's lifestyle. To do so, they have 'Japanified' one of the towers of Caesars Palace.
