Hotel Chalet des Champions is a three-star hotel located in Les 2 Alpes just minutes from the town centre and close to the lifts. A relatively small, family-run property, the hotel perfectly captures the resort's low-key and friendly character: the staff is welcoming and attentive; the food is generous and tasty; the views of the mountains are charming; and all the bars and shops are within walking distance. Location 9.45 /10

Les 2 Alpes is a small resort, with only one main street running from one end to the other, so all the hotels in the area are reasonably well-located. Chalet des Champions is particularly central, though, located just 10 minutes' walk from the main square - ski shops, lifts, pistes - and even closer to the most popular bars and restaurants. Grenoble-Isére is the closest airport (approximately 120km) and bus service, Ben's Bus, operates regular services from here to the resort. Visitors can also fly to Lyon-St Exupéry (160km) and Geneva (220km), with regular buses running from these airports as well. For those opting for the train, Grenoble is the nearest station, at just over an hour's car journey from Les 2 Alpes.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

We were extremely satisfied with the accommodation at the hotel; all the bedrooms are warm and inviting, and feature a TV, terrace, hanging space for your bulky ski gear, Wi-Fi access (see above) and private bathroom. Some terraces are much bigger than others, and some feature better views of the mountains, but in general all the rooms are of a high standard. The bathroom comes stocked with the essentials: shower gels, shampoo, bar soap, and so on, and the shower itself is modern and recently renovated. That said, the design of the bathroom was slightly flawed, and after taking a shower we found the whole bathroom floor (extending to the carpet outside) soaked! Probably more of a problem for the hotel itself than for us, but either way, it wasn't ideal.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The atmosphere upon arrival at Chalet des Champions is quiet and relaxed. The staff is incredibly welcoming, helping visitors with bags and advising on things to do nearby. The hotel itself is very small, so guests looking for a lively, buzzing atmosphere may be disappointed. Having said that, those after a more family-oriented, quiet break will be thoroughly satisfied. We were staying towards the end of the spring season, so the hotel was particularly calm, but we were assured during the popular skiing season it often livens up. There is a comfortable lounge area with plenty of seating, a bar, piano, TV and fireplace. The décor is quite simple, and although the colours are light and airy, the space still manages to feel warm and inviting. On top of this, there is a sauna and hammam located on the lower-ground floor for anyone looking to relax after a long and tiring day on the slopes. Only one particular problem to note: the Wi-Fi connection was temperamental. It is free for all the hotel's guests, but unfortunately there was a choppy network connection most of the time. For this trip, it didn't matter a huge amount, but visitors after a strong internet connection will be frustrated as it can be quite slow. Without this minor issue, the Chalet des Champions comes highly recommended.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

The hotel has two restaurants: one, located on the right hand side of the entrance, is used primarily for dinner and the other is used for breakfast. We had a delicious and hearty dinner with excellent wine and attentive service at the first. There was a particularly tasty foie gras soup starter which comes very highly recommended. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere inviting and friendly. Because we were some of the only people dining, it felt like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which made for an enjoyable meal with plenty of food and wine. The breakfast restaurant, located further towards the back of the hotel, is light and spacious with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out towards the mountains. A delicious breakfast buffet is readily available with a selection of pastries, cereals, yoghurts, fruits, juices and hot drinks. When it comes to dining, the Hotel Chalet des Champions has everything you need for your holiday.
