    Location 4.12 /10

The Best Western Saphir is not the best-located hotel for discovering the heart of the city of Lyon. In fact, this Best Western is located on the border of the 5th and 9th district in the Gorge de Loup neighbourhood. This neighbourhood, which is currently in the midst of restoration, oscillates between the residential area and the soulless modern business area.
The Lyon Part-Dieu train station is three kilometres away, but luckily a metro station (Gorge de Loup) is about 200 metres from the hotel. It's not the ideal area if you want to discover the gastronomy, night life or shopping in Lyon. For that, you'll need to take a car or the subway and go downtown to have a some choice in terms of restaurants, bars and shops.

    Accommodation 6.45 /10

The Best Western Saphir has 111 rooms: 50 with one large bed and 55 with two beds. 6 of these rooms are Junior Suites.
While the rooms are fairly spacious, we can not say that they stand out for their decoration (the bedrooms and bathrooms seem to have been renovated since our visit). The choice of colours is not the most harmonious with the white walls and ceiling, the pale yellow wallpaper on the wall where the headboard is, the blue/green carpet, a wooden headboard painted red that match the cushions of the bed and a small desk with a red and blue/green top, a chair and an armchair upholstered with a white fabric. The ensemble is somewhat disjointed and far from current decorating standards. The furniture is reduced to its simplest form and not very good.
Still, the rooms are neat and clean. They are equipped with an 82-cm LCD TV with Canal + and satellite channels, air conditioning, free wifi and a welcome tray.
The rooms known as Junior Suites are more for families or for disabled people that only differ from the "classic" rooms by their larger size and parquet floors instead of the carpeting.
With their light gray tiles, the bathrooms are simple, with no frills. They're equipped with bathtubs, and the toilet is not in a separate room.
The rooms afford a view of either the street or the courtyard.

    Overview 7.20 /10

Surrounded by residential buildings, the Best Western Saphir has a wide modern style façade whose entrance is flanked on one side by the outdoor terrace of the restaurant, separated from the street by panels of wood, and on the other by the "Les Tournesols" restaurant's glass façade.
The lobby is like a vast hall decorated all in white which gives it a nice brightness. Here you will find the wooden reception desk, two lifts, a bar area and a lounge space with stylish furniture including traditional armchairs covered with black velvet, coffee tables and chrome stools which unfortunately do not match with the rest of the decor.
When you get to the corridors, you feel that the establishment is not in its prime youth. Pale yellow wallpaper, carpeting and light blue doors give a somewhat sad appearance to these common areas, where you won't find the modern look of the lobby.
The Best Western Saphir features the "Les Coquelicots" restaurant, with its 160-seat interior dining room is relatively pleasant and with the same sobriety and modern style as in the lobby. Thanks to its glass wall located on the edge of the street, this room benefits from good lighting. This restaurant also has a 35-seat outdoor terrace with a parasol and the floor covered with artificial grass giving it a holiday look.
The hotel has 5 meeting rooms with a total area of ??250 m². Four of these rooms are located on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Of the four rooms, 3 are situated to let in natural light during the day. They are equipped with air conditioning, free WiFi, screen and video projector.
A 30-space car park is available to customers for 10 euros a day.
Of the 6 floors of the hotel, one is reserved for smokers' guest rooms.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

The restaurant "Les Tournesols" is run by chef Philippe Vignon who offers a menu that changes with the seasons with dishes prepared from seasonal products and specialities from Lyon. A buffet with a different theme is offered to customers.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant's dining room in the form of an American buffet.
