Member of the Holiday Inn hotel chain which belongs to the InterContinental Hotels Group, the Holiday Inn Madrid is a large and tasteless 9-storey block, built in 1980 and housing 313 rooms. To be honest, all the buildings in this financial district, built in the 1970's during Franco's dictatorship, desperately lack charm. However, as far as the Holiday Inn is concerned, do not be deceived by this first bad impression, as you will find lots of lovely surprises once you step through the lobby doors. Meticulous and stylish decoration, a warm welcome and quality services await you. The facilities and equipment are abundant for a city hotel - an unheated rectangular pool on the roof top terrace (4.30 ft deep, open from 10.30 am to 9 pm), a top-rate gym (rowing machines, treadmills, weights, bikes, etc), a sauna, a whirlpool bath, in short, enough to relax in the evening after a long day spent exploring the city. From the panoramic terrace you can admire the Torre Picasso, the work of the architect of the World Trade Center, and the mountains, which are snow-capped up until April. The pool is open during the summer season from May to mid-September. It is supervised by life-guards, and deckchairs and showers are available.
