Located in one of the most glamorous districts of Madrid (Salamanca), the NH Balboa is a large hotel, perfect for tourists or business travellers staying in the city. One of its main strengths is its wonderful cuisine, as the hotel contains the very exclusive Nhube space created by renowned chef Ferrán Adriá. Only about a dozen NH hotels have a similar dining space. This three star hotel has comfortable rooms and attentive staff. It is also very conveniently located for public transport.

    • To know

    • The hotel is located in the heart of the Salamanca district, one of the most exclusive of the capital because it contains the most chic ready-to-wear shops, the best restaurants and the most expensive homes (or almost) in Madrid. A multitude of places are therefore within walking distance of the hotel, including tourist attractions such as the Paseo de la Castellana, the Sorolla Museum and the Museum of Natural Sciences. In terms of transport, this hotel also enjoys a privileged location. About 800m from the hotel is the Avenida de América interchange where a large number of urban and intercity buses converge and there is an underground station with the same name from where you can take lines 4, 6, 7 and 9. The suburban trains station Nuevos Ministerios is about 1.5 mi from the hotel where you can get to the Sol or Atocha train stations in 4 and 8 minutes respectively. Barajas airport is approximately 8 mi away. Due to its location, the hotel also has a good connection with Madrid airport as it is close to the city's ring road (M-30).

    • The rooms are comfortable and functional. The hotel has 122 rooms, including 112 standard rooms, the majority of which (88) are doubles. All rooms feature a large double bed or twin beds (with the exception of the single rooms), a television, desk, mini-bar, safe, pillow menu, hair-dryer and a bathtub with a shower screen. On the third and fourth floors, the bathrooms also have a make-up mirror; these floors are known as the 'women style' floors as they have been especially designed for women. Almost all of the rooms face the street, with views (most without balcony) of the Calle de Nuñez de Balboa and Calle del General Oraa, so narrow that you can easily see the façades of the buildings located across the street. The neighbourhood is relatively peaceful and the double glazing and the shutters in each of the rooms guarantee peace and quiet indoors. Only four rooms overlook an internal courtyard (three doubles and one single). The majority of the single rooms are on the seventh floor, including ten with a balcony. Some of the rooms on the eighth floor have a terrace: three of them are single rooms and two are junior suites. Compared to the standard rooms, the superior rooms have a few additional features: they are larger, they provide more hospitality or beauty products, and they include a bathrobe and slippers.
    • The NH Balboa building has been a hotel since as far back as the 1950s. It was then closed until the NH chain took over ownership. The main entrance of the eight-storey hotel is located in the corner of the building. The hotel was completely renovated in 2002 but, as with other accommodation in this category, the facilities and the decor are subject to frequent gradual renovation. The rooms are all connected by one common area, the restaurant, which is unique in the sense that it offers extraordinary cuisine. The facilities are well maintained and are both functional and modern.
    • One of the highlights of the hotel is the famous Nhube space created by Ferrán Adriá (named after the famous Catalan chef), a truly perfect place to enjoy a meal in a family atmosphere. It is furnished with comfortable sofas and there are several library areas inviting guests to sit read. Euripides, Jorge Manrique and Thomas More are among the authors featured in the Nhube space, where national and international newspapers are also provided. You will recognise the Adriá touch in the table settings and the waiters' orange and black uniforms. The crockery is by OLA, especially designed by Gemma Bernal (a famous Spanish designer) for the great Catalan chef. This area also has a TV and large windows overlooking the Calle de Nuñez de Balboa. The three meals of the day are available: breakfast which is served as a buffet, lunch and the à la carte dinner. The buffet breakfast is both comprehensive and of good quality. Giving you a great start to the day, you will find fruit juices, fruit, various pastries, cold meats, hot dishes, tea, coffee and products suitable for special diets. Both services operate from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. For dinner, the à la carte menu is accompanied by a salad bar. On the menu, you can choose from dishes such as yoghurt mousse with mango and red berries or sea bass "suquets" (a typical Catalan dish of fish and seafood cooked with saffron, wine, tomatoes and potatoes). Expect to pay an average of £9 per dish.
    • This small hotel has no recreation or sport facilities (no spa or gym), however the area surrounding the hotel is packed with all types of services. Indeed, a barber shop and a clothes shop are located just beside the NH Balboa. The type of clientele here varies according to the day of the week: business travellers stay here from Monday to Friday while couples and families take over the rooms on weekends. There is free Wi-Fi in the lobby and restaurant but not in the rooms. Beside the reception, there is a computer with Internet connection and a printer which guests can use for a fee. Because the hotel has no gym, guests are permitted to access the sports facilities of other hotels in the same chain at the same special rates as guests of those hotels. These facilities can be found in the NH Príncipe de Vergara, NH Abascal and NH Eurobuilding hotels. Two of the rooms have been adapted for guests with reduced mobility. Families can request cots and extra beds which are provided free of charge, and connecting rooms are also available, as are high chairs and bottle warmers in the restaurant. This hotel also has two meeting rooms of 40m² and 80m² in size, respectively. The restaurant is closed for lunch and dinner on weekends and public holidays.

Among the highlights of this four-star hotel are the functional and comfortable rooms, and the breakfast, which is both comprehensive and refined.

Its geographical location right at the heart of Paseo de la Castellana, the gourmet cuisine that can be sampled in its two Santi Santamaría restaurants (each boasting several Michelin stars), and its comfortable rooms filled with welcome gifts, are all factors that combine to give the hotel its five-star rating. This 3-star establishment owned by the Spanish NH group is ideal for a business trip and for holidays. With its two neighbouring buildings, it provides comfortable and functional accommodation, as well as high-quality cuisine. What is more, its location will enable you to discover some of the city's tourist sites on foot. The facilities include only the accommodation and the catering service; there is no entertainment area, no sporting facilities and not even a relaxation area such as a spa or a games room. The rooms are the first of the NH brand to adopt the 'green room' concept, featuring some architectural improvements and a clever design aimed at reducing energy consumption.
