This is a truly original, almost museum-like hotel. Each floor was created by a different internationally-renowned architect, Jean Nouvel bagging the 12th and top floor. Basically, this is 12 hotels in one! The Silken Puerta America is the only hotel of its kind in the world and really should be tried at least once for a truly original experience, even 12 times to try all the different concepts! An upmarket establishment which is rather expensive and caters for a business clientele, located near the airport but away from the town centre.

On the Avenida de America, to the north-west of the city, on the road to Madrid-Barajas airport, just 5 mi away. Transfer time is around 10 minutes The nearest underground station is Cartagena (line 7), 656 ft from the hotel.
The tone and atmosphere of the bedrooms is evident as soon as you step out of the lift where the corridor gives a clue as to the material of that floor: Japanese wood, steel, leather, granite... As you will probably have guessed, each bedroom is unique, some having carpet, others wooden flooring, yet others black tiles, etc.. With a floor area of 269 sq ft, they are ultra stylish and perfectly well equipped, with a large electronic safe deposit box for which there is no charge, an inevitably stylish telephone, WiFi Internet access payable locally, discrete air-conditioning, a mini-bar which is never in the same place and a plasma screen satellite television hidden behind a white wall and broadcasting 14 channels. For safety reasons there is no balcony but a panoramic picture window offers an increasingly beautiful view the higher up you are. Half of the rooms overlook the mountains and the other half the large towers of Madrid's financial district. The bathrooms are very stylish, open and covered by a glass pane. You will find all the comfort and facilities you could need here: a bathtub (made of steel, granite, wood, etc. according to the floor), a stylish shower with fairy lights and hydromassage jets, a double vanity unit, a separate toilet, make-up mirrors, elaborate hospitality products, eau de toilette, aftershave, a razor and shaving mousse, tooth paste and a toothbrush, a hair-dryer, bathrobes, slippers, tissues...basically, if you've forgotten your toiletry bag, it really doesn't matter! The 12 suites, each with a floor area of 646 sq ft, located on the 12th floor were created by Jean Nouvel.
It is easy to spot the tall, coloured silhouette characteristic of the Silken Puerta America, an impressive 13-storey building, each floor designed by a different architect using different materials. The entrance is less obvious, hidden behind an automatic glass door. The facade features poems by Paul Eluard in various languages, including English. Leather on the 2nd floor, steel on the 4th, granite on the 9th, Japanese on the 10th - take your pick! Opened in September 2005, the hotel, a member of the Spanish Silken hotel group, has 327 bedrooms, reached by a stylish panoramic lift. Each floor houses 30 bedrooms, 15 in the left-hand corridor and 15 in the right-hand corridor with a suite at the end of each corridor. The hotel is stylishly designed throughout, even down to the toilets!
The Silken Puerta America has two ŕ la carte restaurants. For quicker service, choose the Mad restaurant, which serves Mediterranean cuisine in a dining room that can seat up to 150 diners. Breakfast is served between 7:00am and 11:00am, after which the restaurant stays open until 3:00am! The "Lágrimas Negras" restaurant is more gourmet and therefore services takes longer. It serves delicious Spanish cuisine created by chef José Luis Estevan in a smaller dining room with a capacity for 70 guests. Whole hams, collections of tea, and trolleys of cheese are among the sights here. A large choice of wines and spirits is also available. Lunch is served between 1.30pm and 4:00pm and dinner between 9:00pm and 11.30pm. Why not spend your evenings on the panoramic 13th floor, sipping a cocktail in the Skynight bar that is open from 9:00pm until 3:00am (and until 4:00am on Fridays and Saturdays). A DJ sets the groove and the place becomes a trendy disco! More courageous guests with a head for heights might like to take a walk through the small glass passage 60m above ground level, which gives the impression that you are walking on thin air: it really is breathtaking! A second stylish bar found on the ground floor lobby, the Marmobar, is open between 8:00am and 2:00am. The Italian white marble counter was the first stone to be laid in the building.
The crazy concept of the Puerta America hotel is meant to be a tribute to freedom and combines the talent of 19 world-renowned architects including Norman Foster for the 2nd floor and Jean Nouvel for the 12th and top floor. The result is very surprising with an omnipresent design. The first floor, created by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, is the most popular. It is worth noting that the 3rd, 4th and 11th floors are smoking.. On the 12th and top floor, you can relax in the spa which includes a treatment and massage room, a stylish, 452 sq ft, rectangular heated indoor swimming pool, a stylish hammam, hydromassage jet showers and a gymnasium. A wooden terrace with deckchairs and cushions offers beautiful panoramic views.
50% of the bedrooms overlook the mountains (which are snow-covered in winter) and 50% the Madrid skyline. The view of the mountains is, of course, much more attractive! The bedrooms located on the upper floors obviously have a better view.
