Guests will be immediately seduced by the charm and elegance of the tastefully decorated guest rooms. Teak flooring, white walls, teak furniture (desk, luggage rack, etc.): you'll feel right at home in this 24m accommodation where your comfort comes first. All of the guest rooms have free Wi-Fi Internet access, individual air-conditioning, a large flat-screen television with channels such as CNN and BBC World, a flashlight, 24/7 room service, a fruit basket, a minibar fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, and an electronic safe large enough to store a laptop. The two beds are covered in petals and colourful balloons. A terrace furnished with a sofa and a wooden coffee table affords a stunning view of the flower-filled garden and its pool featuring a waterfall. The pretty teak bathrooms are nicely decorated and brightened up with plants, and include bathtub equipped with a flexible and tropical shower hose as well as two handles, all filled with petals, a toilet, a make-up mirror, the essentials for brushing your teeth and shaving, bathrobes, flip flops, a standard wall-mounted hair-dryer, a tissue box and numerous well-presented toiletries (cotton buds, soap, shower gel, shampoo, etc.). Five guest rooms have the luxury of outdoor tropical showers on pebbles, with a small bench.

    Overview 8.20 /10

Built in 2006, the Hotel by the Red Canal is a small boutique hotel with 26 guest rooms spread across a two-storey building resembling a temple, tucked away in a charming garden with a small swimming pool shaped like a bean. At 1m30 deep, it is surrounded by teak deckchairs topped with mattresses, and parasols. Guests can swim from 6:00am to 10:00pm. A little stone elephant can be seen on the poolside. The setting is peaceful with everything you need - towels are provided on site free of charge. The lighting is a very subdued, perhaps too much so? Teak is certainly omnipresent. In any case, a pleasant fragrance emanates from the site. On the first floor, the Canopy Bar serves free snacks and extends on to a terrace overlooking the swimming pool. Access is via a wooden staircase. The decoration is charming, especially the traditional harp hung on the wall. On the second floor guests will find a spa, or rather two massage rooms, a small gym open 24/7, a library and a business centre with a printer and four computers for free Internet access.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

Guests can savour the Indian specialities prepared by the Indian chef at the la carte restaurant, but don't worry, there's something for everyone! Burma, Chinese and European dishes are also served. Meals are eating in a two-storey annexe that can seat some sixty diners. The vegetables come straight from the vegetable garden. Once again, teak is omnipresent. Breakfast is served from 6:00am to 10:00am and is followed by a non-stop service until 10:00pm. The papaya juice is delicious, as are the samosas. As for the wine cellar, it includes Italian, Argentinian, Australian, French, Spanish, Chilean and Myanmar wines. The bar is open from 6:00am to 10:00pm.

    To know

Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the hotel, including in the guest rooms. The four computers in the lobby are also free for guests to use. A small gym is open 24/7. The hotel has a free car park, bearing in mind that foreigners are not allowed to rent cars. But at least it's good to know for your chauffeur! Ten guest rooms are provided for guests with disabilities. Every evening, entertainment is put on around the poolside with a traditional harp and a free cocktail. Finally, the Canopy Bar on the first floor serves coffee, traditional Myanmar tea, fruits biscuits, rice and tofu. Note that all of the guest rooms are non-smoking.

Well we were impressed at our arrival. Great welcome from the staff. We stayed here whilst travelling around the area and so were only there 7pm-7am. Happy hour was great. For those who don't mind a short walk it was placed conveniently to restaurants. That said taxis are cheap so for a round trip including waiting for us while we ate a taxi for 5 people cost a total of the equivalent of 10USD.

      • Advantages

Only three cocktails but like soft drinks in North America it was free top ups until the end of happy hour.. All in all this was a nice hotel to stay in. Would stay here again.

      • Disavantages

The rooms at the hotel weren't huge but perfectly adequate.
