Hotel Cokkinis Hotel 0 star
Mégara, Greece
Amy Adejokun Section editor

Wedged between the road and the sea, The Cokkinis is a small and unpretentious establishment. It offers a beautiful view of the sea with its dominant position at the foot of the grey cliffs. This small family-run, somewhat outdated guest house is not suitable for a week-long a seaside stay but it is a good stopover point on the Peloponnese route. The owner, Nicolas Cokkinis is French. Despite the 63 steps up to the establishment, disabled guests are welcomed like any other guest.

    Accommodation 5.20 /10

The hotel has 24 guest rooms sixteen of which have balconies overlooking the sea and four of which have a side view. The classic rooms are unfortunately not very spacious at 15m², bathroom included. However, a small dressing room, a chair and a desk have been fitted in. For the bedroom, two options exist: either two twin beds next to one another, or a 1.60m wide double bed. The decor is quite minimal, so it is imperative to get a room with a balcony. In terms of amenities, there bare minimum is provided: television, air-conditioning, refrigerator and toiletries.
On the 3rd floor, four suites share a large terrace. The view is beautiful but it there is also a lot of traffic noise. Each suite measures 27m² but the lighting is poor. In fact, the amenities are the same as the standard rooms, with a small lounge in addition.

    Overview 5.70 /10

Built in 1973, The Cokkinis is not exactly young. The decoration is proof of that. After opening, it fell into disuse... However, the hotel was renovated in 2002. The establishment consists of a small narrow building with three floors. Its location affords beautiful sea views overlooking the coast and the islands of Aegina and Salamis. Once arrived, you can enjoy the rhythm of the waves that slide across the pebble beach.

    Food and drink 5.70 /10

The dining room is slightly worn out and dark but the room provides coolness in the summer. Thanks to the trees opposite that keep it in the shade. A pleasant terrace overlooks the pebble beach with its clear water. Here guests are lulled by the sound of the waves. Breakfast (8:00am to 10:00am) and dinner (7:00pm to 9:00pm) are served in the form of a buffet while a menu is available for lunches (1:30pm to 3:30pm). For breakfast, guests can sample all types of coffees including espresso. The buffet includes two kinds of cheese, whole fresh fruit, some cold cuts, fried eggs and several kinds of bread. Note that bottles of water are provided free of charge. As for the hotel bar, it is open from 10:00am to 10:00pm.

    Beach 6.20 /10

The hotel beach is equipped with plastic deckchairs and straw parasols. The water is incredibly transparent. However, there is no sand in the sea, but rather shingles which are more like pebbles. It is therefore recommended to keep your shoes on while bathing. Here water sports are not allowed so you can take advantage of the peace and quiet for a quick doze...
